Modern Warfare 3 Played Twice As Much As Battlefield 3 In First Month

Fans have shown their alliance with Call of Duty once more, making the latest installment, Modern Warfare 3, the most played shooter of 2011, doubling the amount of playtime EA’s Battlefield 3 received in its first month on the market.

That’s according to Raptr, a firm that tracks real-time gameplay from its userbase of more than 10 million, with statistics being based on total amount of hours played in the first month, average session length in the first month, and average playtime per person in the first week.

Results:

– Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 earned double the amount of playtime in its opening month than Battlefield 3 did in its opening month.
– The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim dominated the RPG category with six times more total playtime than the closest competitor, Dragon Age 2.
– DC Universe Online experienced a 2500% increase in total playtime per day after switching from a subscription business model to free-to-play.
– The Sims Social accumulated more total playtime in its opening month than all other social games released in 2011 in their respective opening months.

Not surprising. I know I didn’t help MW3’s numbers on this one.

    I helped :D I also helped BF3!

  • rpatricky

Indeed. It is strange. I have loved the COD series from MW1 and now I am just plain sick of it. Still have to finish the SP mode on the PS3 in Super Ultra Hard mode. Was too easy on the 360 in normal.

I think you’re just tired of the “same old”, and since BF3 is new to you, it feels fresh… I’m hoping the COD franchise see some kind of revamp soon….I’m sure there’s a new engine incoming.

Yeah. It is getting rather long in the tooth. I just feel kind of cheated with the release of MW3. It feels like it could have been DLC.
I won’t buy the next installment unless they have something mold breaking.

Indeed – and I think they’ll have something fresh…Fan feedback is causing a stir.

It is funny to read some of the comments on Metacritic about both BF3 and MW3.

Too many fanboys on Metacritic. LOL. But yeah, funny stuff.

not exactly surprising considering its sold what, 3 times as much?
what matters is what the fans say, and everything i hear about MW3 is its too similar to MW2.
BF3 on the other hand, only complaint i have heard is wheres the destruction the series is famous for?!

People love it. It does need a revamp for the new game…
