People have been saying that current consoles will lose their relevance in wake of the onslaught of smartphones boasting almost equal prowess, but according to research firm ABI, that kind of talk simply not true.
“Some industry insiders have started to envision the demise of game consoles – an end expected to come at the hands of mobile devices – but we feel this market still has plenty of life,” ABI researcher Jason Blackwell told IndustryGamers.
He said while it is true smartphones could catch up with consoles in terms of sheer power, “there are a number of issues such as storage and portability that could hinder the transition to mobile.”
Adding: “The game console has a higher degree of persistence in the living room, giving more household members access to the device at any time of the day, whereas most mobile devices are designed for portability and a more personal experience.”

People who say consoles will lose their relevance are people who probably raise barns and enjoy the smell of a horses ass while it is pulling their buggy to get a butter churn from their closest neighbor who happens to be 10 miles away.

We do not need new consoles for atleast another 2 to 3 years. There is plenty life in the PS3 and Xbox 360.
