Battlefield 3 gameplay designer Alan Kertz has confirmed that the game will feature 3D spotting. What’s “spotting”, you ask? Spotting allows gamers to pin-point the location of enemies for the rest of their team. Once spotted, a soldier has a red triangle above his head and is singled-out on the game’s mini-map.
He made this news known via twitter, adding that 2D spotting will be minimum.
“Yes, there will be spotting,” Kertz confirmed.
“2D spotting is a minimum,” he added. “I want a form of 3D spotting that avoids, ‘There, behind the tree.’ ‘What tree?’”
“I want a balanced 3D spot that works for a whole team.”
“It’s still early,” he assured another enquirer, “there’s still plenty to do, and it’s not like I’m going to forget about spotting, or the issues it creates.
“Spotted enemies could have a bomb dropped on them by an orbital space cannon for all I’ve decided right now.”
While Hertz assured that players will be able to prone in Battlefield 3 – meaning players can lie on their stomachs – there will be absolutely no lying down while in mid-air. This is a technique called ‘Dolphin Diving’ and “is out”, wrote Kertz – “Period.”
Battlefield 3 will be released in Autumn for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game will see a full reveal at GDC later this month.

dam, got me so excited there i thought that was 3D support.

oh well, BFBC2 did have 3D support so im sure this will.
hopefully better, BFBC2s 3D support was, well, not exactly up to DICE standards!
Details are starting to come to the surface concerning this…… It’s looking like something.
Yeah I’m liking what I’m seeing/hearing thus far
looks ok, id much rather a mirrors edge 2 though.
Shooters, shooters and more shooters…..It’s where the money is.
not for long!
sooner or later people will get sick of them…….
And we should get sick of them if innovation is lacking….
