Signs Of The Times: Toshiba Unveils Glasses-Less 3D TV At CES

Man’s moving a tad too fast, wouldn’t you say? Just when we thought watching movies in 3D on your HDTV without glassee was way into the future, Toshiba’s gone live with one, demoing the thing at CES as we speak.

Christ almighty.

The electronics company showed off Final Fantasy XIII with 56â€³ and 65â€³ TVs in Las Vegas, with Toshiba executives stating the company will â€œprobably launch two models, one over 40-inches and another over 50-inchesâ€.

According to Atsushi Murasawa, the companyâ€™s head of visual products, the TVs won’t only be sold in super high tech Japan, but also in the U.S. and Europe, with production going into high gear this year.

“These will not only be for the Japanese market, but also America, Europe and China, he said via Reuters.

I’ll be honest with myself, if this comes available in the U.S. this year, I’ll buy it.

There’s been no price yet, unfortunately.

2 how effective is it?
the glasses free TVs ive seen tilt your head slightly and the screen goes blurry and you start blowing chunks.
im assuming they have solved that, because i dunno but i think people might be kinda pissed if they pay 12K for a TV and have to sit dead straight in front of it to be able to use it.
i dunno, just a hunch.
there trying to push these things out far too fast!
take your time for crying out loud, no one likes a rushed product that is blindingly expensive and makes you recycle breakfast!

eh, thats cheap!
sony actually have a 25 inch on sale in JP right now cant remember how many yen but in AUD its around 8K!
sony also showed theres off at CES aparently there aiming for a late 2012 release, the 56 inch there looking at around 7 grand.
much cheaper than the toshiba because it does not use the cell processor, the toshiba does thats why it can convert any signal to a 3D signal.
thats how they had FFXIII playing in 3D!

good thing about these though is you can sit wherever you want, you can tilt your head however you want and it wont distort the 3D effect.
so much better than the glasses 3D, with my TV if i tilt my head even slightly i loose the effect & the screen goes really dark!

yea, im sure they will release it but not for a long, long time!
its a shame most prototype things never get released, i remember watching a eppisode of top gear where richard went to toyota to view a prototype motorized chair.
it was so cool, looked like something out of a SF movie!
had internet integration in it, a small screen on the side, and had a top speed of 40MPH.
best thing about it was it ran on tracks so it was street legal, so its basically a single seat car but runs on electricity and incurs none of the car taxes or rego and crap.
they were suppose to release it in 2005, 5+ years later and still nothing.

though, this i can see releasing because it would be really popular!
if they can somehow make the TVs see through so people can see where there going, than you could use them while riding a bike, or running, would sell like hotcakes!
