Killzone’s Weighty Controls Will Be Back In Killzone 3 Says Guerrilla

When Killzone 2 came out, many were frustrated with the game’s weighty controls. Some said they wanted it to feel more like CoD’s, while others, (like myself), really loved it. In recent times, Guerrilla Games said that they would replace the “too heavy controls” of Killzone 2 with something faster and more accessible in Killzone 3, leaving the title’s fan base split in half.

What’s the remedy, then? Game Director Mathijs de Jonge explains:

“For the most part, the unique sense of weight in Killzone 2 comes directly from the first-person animations,” he told Killzone.com, “not from the control scheme. The speed of movement and the way the camera bobs up and down are consistent with the view of a person carrying around heavy equipment.”

The entire team went back to genesis, looking at factors like acceleration, input lag, dead zone and more. When they’d completed their research, base on the findings, tweaks were made to fine tune Killzone 3′s controls.

He continued: “Right now it’s still a work in progress, but we’re definitely getting there. We’ve recalibrated the dead zone to be more responsive and significantly reduced the input lag, resulting in far better accuracy.

Adding: “Best of all, we’ve managed to retain that sense of weight that set Killzone 2 apart from other shooters. I can’t wait for people to try it out.”

Killzone 3 will be out in February 2011, Exclusively for the PS3. More through the link.

    wait.
one minute they say the weighty feel of the controls is gone, the next minute they say its still there.
can we make up our god dam mind please!?
i really liked the weighty feel of the controls in KZ2, made it feel different from other games.
for some reason i found it allot easier to aim in KZ2 than other games like resistance 2 for example.

i just finished reading a preview of this in 3D.
aparently there is nothing flying out of the screen.
    what the?
what is the point of 3D if your not going to have debris shrapnel and bullets flying out of the screen?
thats the whole point of 3D!
    disappointing!!!!
