PS3 Hasn’t Outsold Xbox 360 for 3 Straight Years

When folks talk of the PS3 and Xbox 360, they always equate the success of the latter as being mostly in the United States Of America. But is that true? Because many have argued that although Microsoft holds a handy lead in said continent, the Xbox 360 is being dominated by PS3 in all other markets, hence making the console more popular because, worldwide, it sells more.

Not true.

The use of logic tells you that for the ps3 to outsell the xbox 360 for 3Â consecutiveÂ years, it would’veÂ needed to beat the adversary in ANY of these 3 possibleÂ scenarios. First one is ( A: 2006>2007>2008),Â ( B: 2007>2008>2009) or ( C: 2008>2009>2010). We know that 2010 is not over yet but let’s try and think it is (doesn’t make any real difference). Because even if we counted the 1st half of 2010 as an entire year, it stillÂ wouldn’tÂ add up to 3 years.

The answer you will get is (D. None of the Previous Choices). For this claim to be proven wrong, the only thing the xbox 360 needs to do is to have won any single year in any of this scenarios. This claim wasÂ conceived using data from VGchartz, so using the same source, let’s see the truth behind it.

As you can see in these sales charts by the same source, the PlayStation 3 hasn’t even outsold the 360 for 2 straight years,even less 3. The PS3 has outsold the xbox 360 only 1 year since it was released and currently leads 2010 but with aÂ leadÂ of less that 1 million consoles, it’s still anyone’s game.

And the battle rages on. An exciting one too.

Ok; I registered just so I could comment. I really think you should learn to read before posting crap like this. The article which you refer to is saying that if the PS3 had launched at the same time as the 360, then the PS3 would have a 5m lead at the moment. Also for their respective age; it has outsold the 360 for the past 3 years (e.g. in it’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th years the PS3 sold more than the 360 did in it’s 2nd, 3rd and 4th years). It did NOT say that the PS3 outsold the 360 in 2006, 2007 or 2008.

Ok just because of these 2 post I now cannot trust this site feeding fuel to the fan boys get real.no one cares the install base is to large fore either companies to care now Microsoft needs to worry only about the japan market and Sony gathering the poverty market in the US.by lowering system cost Jesus Quit posting articles like this.

I love how an article like this, takes another article, comes up with some delusional spin to it and calls it ‘fact’ that the 360 outsold the PS3 worldwide. Twoheaded freak is right. That article never referred to the 360 outselling the PS3.

The guy who wrote the original article was the one spinning things. the title of it is “PS3 outsells 360 for three straight years worldwide”. when it should be
“PS3 outsells 360 for three straight years worldwide by yearly growth.” He’s talking about how the ps3 has seen increased yearly sales larger then the xbox 360′s yearly sales.

Iâ€™m currently in the process of gaining my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in college. Allow me to explain the situation of the two consoles.

The PS3 has been outselling the Xbox 360 since its launch date, yet lags behind 3-4 million consoles. How?

The Xbox 360 debuted a full year before the PS3, thatâ€™s how.

It is called acceleration of sales.
Sf = Si + a(t)

Sf= final sales
Si = initial sales
a = acceleration rate
t = time

Although the Xbox 360 currently has more market share because of its 1 year head start, the PS3 has consistently had a faster sale rate than the 360. Thus the PS3 has been outselling the Xbox 360, even though there are more Xbox 360s. Which is why publishers and retailers are turning their attention to the PS3: because that is where the market is accelerating at.

So yes, the PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 for three years straight
