PSN Sales Of Mass Effect 2 Has Been “Meaningful”, Says EA

Although Mass Effect 2 was released a full year late on the PS3, EA boss John Riccitiello said the game hauled “meaningful sales” even after it was not promoted, and was PS3′s first launch-day digital release.

That’s what he said while speaking at last week’s Morgan Stanley Technology Conference, brought to our attention by IGN.

He was emphatic that the PSN version was unmarketed, and Mass Effect 2 being released “One year after the original was done on the Xbox and the PC, we released the PS3 and managed to do very, very well with it,” he said.

“Sony offers less than a dozen retail titles for downloads through its US PlayStation Network, and Ricitiello says the release of Mass Effect 2 was “more about proving it can be done than it was proving what the opportunity would be.

Sony had never done a day and day release.

They were very cautious about their infrastructure so it was mostly a technology test.”

Riccitiello then went on to explain why Sony and Microsoft were so cautious about releasing full scale games on their online networks.

“They have got to manage both selling boxes at retail, and it’s generally a pretty thin margin business. And so they basically negotiate and leverage shelf space on the promise of making retail margin on software.”

imagine what they could of done if the game was optimized properly!
played the 360 version with no problems, no freezes, no bugs, no frame rate drops, no screen tearing.
ps3 version though is riddled with those things!
wish for once devs would actually sit down and do a proper port, actually improve on the game, not make it worse!
whole point of releasing a new version is to be bigger and better, not buggier and worse!
