Pachter: Halo: Reach And Super Mario Galaxy 2 Are Not System Sellers

by Ernice Gilbert on March 24th, 2010, under Bungie, Microsoft, Nintendo

It’s been the overriding perception that Halo: Reach and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will sell a substantial amount of consoles for both Nintendo and Microsoft. But while speaking in an interview with Industry Gamers on the back of Nintendo’s 3DS announcement yesterday, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst, Michael Pachter said that’s not the case.

He thinks the hardcore folks who would’ve bought the consoles because of the two aforementioned games already have one.

“I can’t imagine Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Metroid Other M as system-sellers, any more than I would expect Halo Reach or SOCOM to be. The hardcore Wii audience already has a Wii console, so these game launches aren’t likely to be catalysts.”

Halo: Reach will be out this fall, according to this rumor, the game will land on September 14th. Super Mario Galaxy 2 will hit store shelves in the US on May 23rd and in Europe on June 11th.

Great article but one should never bet against Mario LOL. Like it or not the Halo franchise is a game changer and a system seller.

Halo Reach may not able to sell consoles like Halo 3 or even maybe ODST did but with a few bundle packages, collection and legacy editions and 360’s being released with 250GB HD sometime tells me Halo Reach will be able to move a few consoles.

I tend to agree with you os, one should never bet against Mario.

But are you positive Halo has some steam left to sell consoles?
