For Nintendo, The Motion Race Between Sony and Microsoft Is Embarrassing

In this the seventh generation of consoles, we all know who ran away with the biggest bag of money while the two others struggled to break even, it’s Nintendo. And the reason is obvious, the company placed all bets on its then New Wii, and its motion technology hoping a fire would catch. It did.

Now the Nintendo is making so much cash it could even start a bank. Sony and Microsoft are jealous; and rightfully so, they want piece of that pie and now we have the PS3 Move and Microsoft’s Project Natal. They’re fighting, wrestling hared for second place while Nintendo stays out of the fray.

Reggie Fils-Aime and the Nintendo of America (NoA) gang stand and watch the battle from the sidelines, one that’s “embarrassing”, that’s what NoA boss, Fils-Aime said to Kotaku.

“I think a hallmark of Nintendo is that we are constantly trying to innovate,” he said, speaking in the wake of Sony’s Move reveal at GDC this week.

“I think we would have been embarrassed to do what our competitors are currently doing.

“So, all I can tell you is that we will innovate. We will provide something new. Something that the consumer and the industry will look at and say ‘Wow, I didn’t see that coming.’”

Fils-Aime felt the need to reiterate Nintendo’s refusal to release any new hardware on the market until Wii’s worn out.

“When Mr Miyamoto goes to Mr Iwata say, ‘I have this great idea and I can’t do it on the Wii,’ that’s when there will be a next generation console,” he said.

“What that includes we’ll see. I think Mr Miyamoto himself has said that he is very interested in a high-definition experience, but to be 120 percent crystal clear, HD by itself in our view is not enough to go for a new console past the Wii.”
