Did You Know? Final Fantasy XIII Was Supposed To Be On PS2

by Ernice Gilbert on February 1st, 2010, under PS2, Sony, Square-Enix

Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, recently sat down for an interview with OPM Benelux, and in it, he revealed that the RPG was originally being developed as a PS2 title.

So why wasn’t the game released on said console? Well the team working on it was about “a-year-and-a-half” into development, but then Sony announced PS3 and Square-Enix decided to release the game on that console instead.

“Final Fantasy was originally meant to be a PS2 title, but we had to switch systems due to the arrival of PS3,” said Kitase.

“That cost us about one and a half years and was constantly a case of trial and error, However, because we worked so hard at the beginning, we got to cruising speed much faster than anticipated and therefore could start on the translation and international voice recording voice process at an early stage of the development.”

He added: “It’s because of this that we can release both the European as well as the America version barley three months after the Japanese release.”

Was it a right move to release Final Fantasy XIII on PS3 instead of PS2? I think so. Share your thoughts.

yeah I think it was way better. Why would anyone want to be a playing a new final fantasy on a last gen console? sales for it would have probably pretty bad if they decided to keep it on ps2.
