Bioshok Infinite Delayed Delayed Into 2013

Take-Two has announced that Bioshock Infinite has been delayed into 2013. February, 13th, to be exact.

“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary,” said Irrational Games boss Ken Levine.

“Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013. We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible.

I won’t kid you: BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we’re doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter. We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months [from] our original ship date drew near. Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan’s golf club didn’t have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco.

The same principle now applies to BioShock Infinite.

What does this mean for you? It means a bit more waiting, but more importantly, it means an even better BioShock Infinite. The great can be made greater, and we owe it to both ourselves and to you, our fans, to take this opportunity. Irrational Games is one of those rare developers lucky enough to ask the people who sign the checks: ‘Hey, can we have a few more of those checks?’

We are also going to hold off on showing BioShock Infinite at the big events of the summer, like E3 and Gamescom. That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box. Preparing for these events takes time away from development, time we’re going to use instead to get the best version of Infinite into your hands in February.”

Bioshock Infinite was supposed to be released on October 16th in the U.S. and on the 19th of the same month in the U.K.

Good, less games I don’t need to buy this year and more money in my pocket. Win-Win

:/, I’m disappointed I won’t get to play it earlier, but, they have the right intentions so… Whatever makes it the best experience possible by all means take your time.

I don’t care if they take long to release a game. Why doesn’t people understand that? The developers are having more time to perfect the game. I loved the Heavy Hitters, all of them, It would be awesome if they added another one, but that would be asking too much. Oh yeah Duke Nukem was the only game that had too long to develop and still sucked ballsacks. That is a wrong use of extra time developing a game. Hope other games never do anything like that game ever.

@TheGrimOfDeath, dude what are you even talking about? no one here is complaining about the game being pushed back. and what does duke nukem have to do with BioShock Infinite?

According to Kotaku, this could be a reason for the delay besides the overcrowded AAA titles during the fall, and general polishing of the game.

@Ghost250 I have some friends that are complaining that Bioshock Infinite sucks because it is pushed back. And Duke Nukem was just shit. :D

    :(
sad to see its delayed, but better to delay it and make it perfect than rush it and make it a good game.
but what pisses me off is that there going to stop showing it till next year!
    WTF!?
i mean come on, you cant just completely stop showing the game just because you delayed it!
yeah it takes time to prepare demos to show off the game, but that was never a problem before so why is it now?
way to rub salt in your fans wounds ken!

I understand the delay, guys, but I’m not sure how this will affect the game… It’s been exposed for quite some time…sending it in hiding isn’t good.

exactly why so many are so pissed!
i understand that it takes so long to get a game ready to show at these shows, but they need that!
if anything we need them more than before so they can say hey look this is what we have been doing with the extra time.
if they dont show the game again till early next year how are we suppose to know what the extra time has brang?
ridiculous, sorry ken but this is utter crap!
get bioshock infinite to E3 for the love of god!

  10. DarkReaper9 May 10, 2012 at 10:28 am -

Well it’s possible that they could release a demo a month before release, I mean there was one for Bioshock.

  11. Ernice Gilbert May 10, 2012 at 10:36 am -

@Reaper: That’s a good point, but the demo won’t be released until next year. It can’t be released too early.
