Burbank, Calif. – April 8, 2010 – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces F.E.A.R. 3, a heart-pounding paranormal horror first person shooter unleashing intense combat, compelling narrative and co-op play that evolves the franchise. F.E.A.R. 3 is set to release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows PC in fall 2010.

Alma returns in F.E.A.R. 3 but this time her sons Point Man and Paxton Fettel introduce divergent co-op, giving players distinctly different abilities affecting their own play as well as the experience of their co-op partner. Gamers participate in single player or co-op modes as Point Man, a genetically enhanced super soldier originally introduced in F.E.A.R., or they can play cooperatively as his conniving brother Paxton Fettel, whose incredible telekinetic power has given him life beyond the grave. The game is developed by Day 1 Studios, developer of the original F.E.A.R. console games in collaboration with Monolith Studios.

“Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is evolving the F.E.A.R. brand with top horror, co-op and first person shooter combat in F.E.A.R. 3,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Monolith Productions has passed the torch to Day 1 Studios to create a quality, powerful game that stays true to the roots of the F.E.A.R. franchise but takes players to a heightened level of gameplay.”

To further ensure extreme terror in F.E.A.R. 3, legendary horror director John Carpenter (Halloween, Village of the Damned) and critically acclaimed horror comic and script writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) have provided consultation to enhance several of the game’s frightening aspects. Steve Niles co-wrote the game script with the development team and John Carpenter provided his expertise in crafting the in-game cinematics.

“After working closely with Monolith, Day 1 is honored to bring the next iteration of the F.E.A.R. franchise to gamers with key elements of the past games yet providing fresh combat and horror experiences in F.E.A.R. 3,” said Denny Thorley, Founder and President, Day 1 Studios. “Players can look forward to new features such as divergent co-op, an evolved cover system, and more scares in F.E.A.R. 3.”

Now that is a launch trailer. I have not played any of the F.E.A.R. games but if they are anywhere near in tone as that trailer I may have to give them a try to hold me over until F.3.A.R. 3 comes out.

what the hell were WB thinking?
F.E.A.R without monolith is like uncharted without naughty dog, or gran turismo without polyphony digital, or doom without ID.
im really disappointed by this, i loved the first fear game but the second one is in competition for the title of the most disappointing game EVER!
fear was a claustrophobic scary tense confined horror game, fear 2 was the complete opposite it honestly felt like a freaking rambo film!
your character in fear 2 is way overpowered and the open esc level design takes away any suspension created, fear 2 is simply one of the most disappointing games ive ever played in my 20+ years of gaming!
and it sadly looks like fear 3 will be following 2s trend, i certainly hope not!
hopefully fear 3 goes back to the originals roots and manages to scare the crap out of me.
but i wont be holding my breath!
first resident evil 5 than fear 2 than prince of persia than dead space 2 and now this!
all games changing their genre, and selling out!
    whats next?
fear is suppose to be a tense closed in scary game, not a mindless shooter like a rambo film!

lol at the Rambo film comparison. But I must agree with you there Nick, they’re turning these games into mindless shooters.

its really sad every horror game is now either turning into a action game ala dead space 2, fear 2 or resi 5.
or there turning into tourture porn ala saw or silent hill homecomming.
a new silent hill game was announced today, i just hope they go back to the original.
homecoming was nothing but grose the player out with extreme gore, having a person cut up on a table with blood everywhere does not equal horror.
walking through a corridor with the lights out and creepy music playing equals creepy music.
interesting to see fear 3 is not being made by monolith so hopefully there working on condemned 3, condemned 2 is the only game this gen i can actually call a horror game.
that scared the pants off of me!

    ha, go play doom 3.
i could not play that in the dark with the sound up, and still cant.
only game ive played thats scarier than that is the suffering back on ps1.
now thats the scariest game ever made!
it was so sick and twisted, so gory, you have to be a seriously messed up SOB to think up that stuff.

Nick thanks for informing me after seeing the trailer I wondered about Fear and Fear. Prior to me buying an Xbox 360 last month along with Gears of War 1 and 2 and Dead Space the last time I played a game was Ghost Recon: Island Thunder and Halo 2 just to give you some perspective… That said it does seem most horror games are really FPS in disguise… I tried the demo to RE 5 and not only was I not scared I was not even entertained sappy horror and even sappier shooting ☺… even worse yet most games are FPS that hardly deviate from each other… plus most of them feel like subliminal recruiting tools for the armed forces… Which is why I feel 2010 is probably the most important year for gaming ever though released in 2K9 Uncharted 2 followed by 2010 releases of Heavy Rain and Alan Wake represent a break from the current mode of gaming and their success or failure will determine if we will get more FPS madness shoved down our throats or will we get a few games with plots, elements, overall story and good gaming…

if your looking for a good horror game, i think prey, fear (first one not the 2nd one that sucked!) and doom 3 are really good horror games.
    RE5 was complete utter crap!
i mean why the hell is there a cover system in a zombie shooter?
they should change the name from resident evil to zombies of war or something because re5 is nothing like previous RE games.
if you have access to a ps1 you MUST play the suffering.
best horror game ever made! though be warned it is extremely gory!
