For Black Creator, Latest FPS Games Are Mighty Boring

When Black landed on PS2, the game became an instant hit, gritty and fast-pace the FPS kept your fingers busy constantly. A thrill-a-minute kinda ride. Now looking at the latest shooters available on the market today, Black creator, Stuart Black, had a description for them, we won’t use that kind of language here.

“There’s a lot of cover-based shooters out at the moment,” said Black. “But when a guy hunkers down behind something, you’ve just got to sit there and wait for him to pop his head up.

“Pops up, couple of bullets to his head, pops back down again… and I’m waiting for him to pop back up again?

“#34%&^ boring. I can’t be bothered hanging around like that.”

Stuart Black is now part of a new studio formed by Codemasters in Guildford, where he and a team including ex-Black Rock and SCEE devs, are hard at work on a new shooter for the company.

Black was developed by Criterion and published by EA.
