Avatar Wins Two Golden Globe Awards

Avatar, the James Cameron filme which sold $1.6 billion in tickets worldwide in just one month also received the highest honor at the this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

James Cameron carried home two awards for his blockbuster 3D film on Sunday night. The movie was chosen for best motion picture drama, while James was chosen for best director.

“We have the best job in the world,” Cameron said.

That’s true, but what about the game? We all know it was a huge disappointment, not that we were expecting anything else; I mean you could hardly find one game based movie or vice-versa that didn’t flop. Cinematic Judgement anyone?

Ubisoft was the studio at the helm of game development, and according to comments made in a recent conference call by company CEO Yves Guillemot, the game was materially harmed by the film releasing so late in the year.

“We knew we were taking [some risk],” the boss said. “The fact that the movie was coming in December was a potential problem, and it did result in a problem.”

“We thought the game would continue to sell after the new year,” he continued, but instead the game followed a more typical post-holiday declining sales curve.

It will be difficult in the future to buy rights to a movie that comes in December, because it’s too risky, and it cannot [capture] Christmas season [sales],” Guillemot added.

So no mention about the game being less than stellar with laggy controls and a camera that’s almost never on point – no, it’s all bad timing. Somehow I find that very hard to believe.

The movie’s awesome though, you should truly experience it in 3D, as usual a great piece of work from James Cameron.

Saw movie in 3D and wow it really immeresed the audience into the enviroment and you really felt the depth from the 3D but it wasn’t gimmicky like most 3D movies. Don’t have a ps3 so can’t say much bout game but usually with game/movie combos the game just doesn’t give the player that feeling of immersion where they feel like they are in the movie and alot of movie games have felt really rushed and have subpar graphics but Cameron started the game early too so developers would have the time to sit down and have fun gameplay and feel the movie experience.
