No More Love For Wii From Third Party Publishers Says SCEA

SCEA’s Rob Dyer sat for an interview with Industry Gamers, their discussion was pretty straight forward, with Dyer speaking like a man who knows his job.

His latest reveal is concerning Nintendo’s Wii, and how because of the lackluster performance most third party publishers games have had on said system, they’re spending a lot less than in the past on it.

“What publishers have said is they’re not going to spend the resources on Wii,” he explained. “In my job, we compete against Microsoft and Nintendo, and we’re competing for resources. So when I walk into a publisher, I ask, ‘Where are you guys pushing your resources?’ In the past, it was ‘Look how hot the Wii is,’ or ‘Look how hot the DS is,’ and ‘We should put resources there.’

“They did that and realized, ‘You know what, third-party product just doesn’t sell on that platform.’ So now they’re taking those resources, coming back to us and saying, ‘Sony we’re going to be able to provide you with that exclusive content,’ or ‘We’re going to put more engineers on it and figure out to maximize the Blu-ray and get more out of PS3.’

“That’s what we’re seeing now, and I don’t even have to fight for their hearts and minds; I just show them the TRST data with regards to how many top 10 titles are third-party titles on the Wii, or how many top 10 titles are third-party titles on the DS. Not many. It’s not a hard story to sell, and they get that.

“Unless they’ve got a particular franchise that’s worked well on the Wii, you don’t see a lot of innovative new IP coming out on that platform.”

Do you agree with Dyer?

I personally don’t see the point of posting fanboy-wankery posts such as this. It’s a cheap way to get hits, and I want us to be better than that.

Phil, we are not fanboys here, ask any member, but we do bring the news.

I didn’t twist nothing, just reported it.

Is your issue with the title? Because I don’t know why would this be considered fanboy material.

Either this guy really believes it out of ignorance…yea, pretty much that is all.

You can’t say things like this if you’ve looked at the numbers.

i sure hope by performance he does not mean sales, because well lets be honest the ps3 has not been doing too crash hot either.
i mean the fact that wii sports is the best selling exclusive is quite embarrassing.
the fact that mass effect 2 sold more copies in 1 week than uncharted 2 did from september till jan this year is not exactly flattering either.
