Feature – Honesty: These Five Games Are Multiplatform

For the love of God, why don’t console makers respect PC gamers? I get it, they’re trying to promote their platform, but to come out and blatantly say a certain title is only available on your platform and you know darn well it’s also on PC is certainly wrong, insincere.

Kaz Hirai said it at E3, and Aaron Greenberg told OXM that “Xbox 360 has the most exclusives,” and he goes on to list Mass Effect 2 etc. Hirai proclaimed in his keynote at E309 that Final Fantasy XIV would be exclusive to PS3. We later found out that the game’s also on PC. Where’s the respect for the Personal Computer?

Honestly, they both are wrong and to prove it, here are five pieces of evidence:

Final Fantasy XIV – Coming later this year to PS3 and PC.

Mass Effect 2 – Available now on PC and Xbox 360.

Splinter Cell: Conviction – Coming to PC and Xbox 360 in April.

DC Universe – Coming to PS3 and PC in 2010.

The Agency – Coming to PS3 an PC in 2010.

As you can now tell from the list above, a lot of titles pushed as exclusives by both Microsoft and Sony are really not are they? They can also be enjoyed, and sometimes even with better looking visuals on PC. It’s time the injustice stop. PC gamers are also part of this industry and respect much be given to them.

But that’s not to say PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii don’t have great games, to put it plain, you’ll never, ever be able to enjoy all the great tittles coming out or already available for said consoles even if gaming was your job; there are just too many:

Wow, really nice read there. And I totally agree. PC gamer have been getting the shaft for a very long time now.

Console PR people hail certain titles as exclusive to there platform when they know it’s not!

    Good Sunday read there.

I agree, those aren’t true exclusives if they are also released on another platform even if that other platform isn’t their direct competition. However how far are we willing to go with this? If it’s also on the PS2 and PSP like MLB The Show do we then consider it not an exclusive on the PS3? Do we now say it’s a Sony exclusive? Would that mean some PC/Xbox 360 games are now Windows and Microsoft exclusive?

The bottom line is this, Microsoft and Sony are the two main parties who emphasize console exclusivity. Microsoft probably more so since they don’t have as many in house studios as Sony. Who really cares? It’s all marketing and they know who their true competitor is (not to take anything away from the PC gaming community). It’s the same thing as Sony marketing games like Heavy Rain and saying how it;s only possible on their hardware. Well of course it is, they are not about to let the IP go to the PC or Xbox 360 to really find out if that’s true now are they? So when you hold the IP like Heavenly Sword you can go and make headlines saying how this game can only be done on the PS3 since you own the rights to it.

It’s all meant to get our attention, just like this. I tend to think most gamers know the difference.

So I’m getting a little nit picky here, but in your PS3 exclusive list you mentioned MAG twice, and Resistance 3 hasn’t been announced. There isn’t a release date for the U.S. release of Ar tonelico 3, of course you may be listing all known exclusives not just 2010 exclusives. I wonder if there are good resources that you could use to find a good list of exclusives. I’ve noticed that most of the time an author tries to list the exclusives for a system some titles always get missed.

Oh one more thing: in your picture for Mass Effect 2 you show a picture of the first Mass Effect.

forgot desus ex 3 for the PC.
anyway im really getting sick of how developers treat the PC.
first IW with their debacle, than bioshock 2 with its impossible DRM, than assassins creed 2 with its even worse DRM.
not to mention the announcement that alan wake and dead space 2 will not be released on PC.

as if having to put up with shoddy ports was not bad enough.
now were getting shafted into buying games to rent them, or not getting them at all.
i wish developers would go back to the good old days and bring PC gaming back to its old glory.
i want PC gaming to be heads and shoulders better than console gaming the way it use to be.

if crysis is what 2007 hardware can do, i want to see what 2010 hardware can do.
the fact that the ps3 and 360 have had games raising the bar every few months, and the PC has not budged in 3 bloody years is quite pathetic!
