Earlier today on Skyrim’s official website, the game was listed as coming to PS4 and Xbox One, see screengrab below.

Well according to Bethesda, it was a bug that caused PS4 and Xbox One to be listed as platforms the 2011 game is coming to.

“We have been working on the CMS that runs our sites,” Bethesda marketing exec Pete Hines said. “A bug caused platforms that don’t exist to show up for some games. Sorry for confusion.”

Still, that doesn’t mean that the game isn’t being remastered for a next-gen release. It simply means Bethesda screwed up and had to come up with an excuse. Said excuse being it was a glitch that caused it to show up so early —

I know, I know. I’m talking nonsense, but we shall see.

Bethesda strikes again, with a post revealing their inability to work on Sony’s console. “This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve,” they admit, “but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content,” says the giant, and the Playstation 3 owners can only pray they get the content. Bethesda’s post on Dawnguard PS3′s status follows:

Earlier in the month, we provided an update on Dawnguard’s status for PS3.

“It’s been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we’re at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you’re talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we’re working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content.

“We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.”

If the DLC never comes out, Bethesda seriously needs to apologize to the owners of the PS3 version of Skyrim. The game has been unplayable to many, due to a vast number of glitches, and even until recently, some couldn’t finish main quests due to bugs or had the game crash all the time. Now, with a new DLC pack coming out for the Xbox 360 in a few days, and Dawnguard still not being “at a satisfactory level” for Bethesda to release, I think it is safe to assume the developer needs to acknowledge how they dropped their fans, or how they are not capable of developing for the Playstation 3, as most of the issues present on Skyrim were present on Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and while the latter was not developed by Bethesda itself, it was published, and thus, had to be quality-checked by them.

According to the Examiner, one of the key features of the recently discovered Skyrim expansion Hearthfire will be the ability to buy a plot of land, and construct a home. These homes start as simple cottages, but can expand to a multi-leveled home complete with numerous rooms, alchemy and enchantment tables, and an armory.

Also leaked was a description of the upcoming expansion:

Hearthfire™, the next official game-add on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim®, has arrived. For the first time in the Elder Scrolls universe, purchase land and build your own home from the ground up – from a simple one-room cottage to a sprawling compound complete with armory, alchemy laboratory, trophy room, and more! With Hearthfire, the possibilities of what you can build are endless.”

Aside from home-building being a feature, Hearthfire’s story may focus on necromancy and spiritual possession. The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages describes Hearth Fire as the name of a month in the Tamriel calender. Upon first glance this is of little importance, however, one of the holidays is Tales and Tallows which occurs the 3rd of the month.

From the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages:

No other holiday divides the people of Tamriel like the 3rd of Hearth Fire. A few of the oldest, more superstitious men and women do not speak all day long for fear that the evil spirits of the dead will enter their bodies. Most citizens enjoy the holiday, calling it Tales and Tallows, but even the most lighthearted avoid dark streets, for everyone knows the dead do walk tonight. Only the Mages Guild completely thrives on this day. In celebration of the oldest magical science, necromancy, all magical items are half price today.”

In regards to the home building features, I am happy that they’re adding this feature, but since this already exists in the form of mods, I hope they have much more planned. As for Tales and Tallows, with Halloween steadily approaching it would be a perfect time to have a quest-line focused on necromancy.

There’s been a little rumor quietly circulating gaming’s web regarding Skyrim’s Dawnguard DLC that’s now available exclusively on Xbox 360, claiming that it’s hitting PS3 sooner rather later. Not so fast, says Bethesda.

“We have not announced Dawnguard for any other platform, nor given a timeline for any such news. If we have news, I promise I’d tell you,” Bethesda’s marketing head, Pete Hines said through twitter.

The consensus was once one month had past, the exclusivity to Xbox 360 would be over, hence a PS3/PC release, but nothing’s manifested and Bethesda is blocked from talking about it because of contract stipulations.

PS3 owners in the meantime will have to make do with patch 1.7 which adds optimization for memory and stability, and patch 1.06 content to PS3. It also means PS3 gamers will finally get features like mounted combat.
