It’s update 1.71, and according to Sony, it’ll “improve software stability of some features”. Sony encourages users to “activate your automatic download” to receive the update as it becomes available.

Massive firmware update 1.70, though introducing some great features, allegedly caused some software and hardware issues, including the lack of DualShock 4 vibration, and problems with automatic gameplay capture. It isn’t known if update 1.71 will rectify said issues.

Sony’s released a detailed post explaining what should be expected in PS4 update 1.70, and Sony Japan has released some screenshots of what said update will look like. There’s even a video from SCEA detailing PS4′s new sharing capabilities now called “SHAREfactory. All details below.

Introducing: SHAREfactory

The 1.70 update will enable SHAREfactory, our new rich video editor app for PS4 that makes it easy for you to customize your gameplay videos:

With SHAREfactory, you can now easily combine your captured video clips for editing, personalize them with special effects using filters, transitions, and themes, as well as share them with your friends and social networks. SHAREfactory also allows you to personalize your videos by adding text, stickers, and a set of included audio tracks, as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability with PlayStation Camera. It also allows you to import your original music to add to the custom soundtrack for your video.

Share With the World

Once you’re done with your masterpiece, you can easily share your SHAREfactory videos to Facebook, or export them to an external USB storage device to upload them elsewhere, another new feature coming as part of the 1.70 system software update. Other PS4 SHARE enhancements include the ability to change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips. In addition to these SHARE enhancements, the 1.70 update will allow you switch off HDCP, enabling you to capture video directly from your HDMI output so you can record and share longer clips of your gameplay sessions — a feature I know many of you have been waiting for. We are excited to see what the PlayStation Nation does with these new social features, and cannot wait to get them into your hands!

Play as Soon as the Game is Released

Providing you with immediate access to your games is a priority designed into PS4, and something we will always strive to make better. We’ve had a great response from PS4 fans about the Play as You Download feature, the snappy load times when launching and playing games, and the general speed and responsiveness of the UI. The 1.70 update adds features to build on this idea and make it faster to play the games you pre-order with an auto pre-download capability, which allows you to pre-download your select pre-ordered game up to several days prior to release. If you have the auto-download feature enabled, it will automatically pre-download your pre-ordered game so you can play as soon as the game is unlocked on release day.

As mentioned earlier, some of these features were a direct result of the great feedback we’ve been getting from you, our dedicated gamer community. We enjoy listening to your comments, and encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts with us. And this is just the beginning. We’ve got a lot more coming in PS4 system software update v1.70 and beyond. The PS4 experience will constantly evolve, and new innovative ideas can come from anywhere to ensure the platform continues to deliver the best in gaming and entertainment every time you turn it on.

See screenshots of how the update looks on the Japanese PSN here. Sony hasn’t revealed when exactly update 1.70 will be released, but reports have claimed it could come before, or on April 30th. We’ll keep you posted, of course.

Sony will take offline PSN from 12:30 p.m. EDT to about 7 p.m. tomorrow. This maintenance session is most likely related to firmware update 4.45 which caused many consoles to freeze, rendering them completely inoperable.

PlayStation Home and Account Management will also be taken offline, however if you’re logged in now and during the maintenance times, you’ll still be able to jump into the multiplayer of your favorite game. In essence, don’t sign out of your PSN account and you’ll be fine.

To compensate, Sony’s sending the PS Plus update live one day early, which is tonight, to “allow you to hop into the store tonight ahead of tomorrow’s store update post, and pick up your purchases prior to the Tuesday downtime. Since this is an early update, be sure to take advantage of any current sales now, while you can.”

“We have identified the issue related to the PlayStation 3 software update (version 4.45) that impacted a small number of PS3 systems earlier this week. A new PS3 system software update is planned to be released on June 27 that resolves the issue,” Sony said in a statement.

DICE has sent live Battlefield 3 patch 1.06 on all platforms, while Armored Kill is now available on PS3. Patch notes and Armored Kill’s wicked launch trailer are inside.

The patch weighs in at 1564MB.

Video Thirst: Battlefield 3: Armored Kill Launch Trailer

WEAPONS BALANCING
Reload timer adjustments
A number of weapons have had their reload timers adjusted to better fit their animations and gameplay balance. For most of these weapons the gameplay timers were slightly out of sync with the actual reload animation, meaning the player could either fire before the animation was done, or had to wait longer than the animation played. Primarily this is a cosmetic change (around 0.1sec); however for a few weapons (M416, F2000, FAMAS, KH2002, MK3A1, JNG90, MG36 QBU-88, SVD, Pecheneg, SCAR-H, AN-94) this should also improve the performance of the weapon. Full details below:
• Short and Long reload reduced: SCAR-L, AEK-971, F2000, AN-94, AK-74, PP2000, G3A3, SKS, MG36, JNG-90, MK3A1, SCAR-H, SVD, QBZ-95B
• Long reload reduced: AUG A3, 44 Magnum, KH2002, Pecheneg, L85A2, QBB-95, M1911, MP7
• Short reload reduced: M417, FAMAS, M39 EBR, M416, PP-19, QBU-88
• Short and long reload increased: ASVal
• Long reload reduced, shot reload increased: M4A1
• Long reload increased: P90

Damage output/range adjustments

• UMP: Increased the close range damage of the UMP but reduced its damage over range. The UMP now has a sweet spot in CQB but suffers compared to the PP2000 at longer ranges.
• PP2000: Increased the long range damage of the PP2000 to highlight its role as a mid-range, low recoil PDW.
• M1911: Increased the minimum damage of the M1911 to make it fit better between the Magnums and the M9/MP443
• M93: Reduced the M93R’s damage and range, as it was an obvious go to pistol compared to the M9/MP443. Its recoil has been reduced for a smoother burst action to counter the reduced damage.
• 12G Frag rounds: These rounds have been adjusted to do their damage in a smaller area but to be more consistently apply the maximum possible damage.
• AA: Slightly increased the damage of the AA against infantry, the AA was simply over nerfed in a previous update. The AA guns now also properly do damage to MBTs again.
• 12 Gauge buckshot close range damage has been slightly increased.
• Slightly reduced the range penalty for the suppressor on the SCAR-H.
• Increased bullet velocity for the coaxial HMG, making it easier to hit targets over longer ranges.
• Increased the minimum range of the 40mm Flechette and tightened the cone of fire for more consistent damage levels.
• Slightly reduced the range bonus added by the heavy barrel on the 5.56mm, 5.45mm, 6.5mm Assault Rifles.
• Slightly reduced the range penalty for the suppressor on 5.56mm, 5.45mm, and 6.5mm weapons: AR, Carbine, and LMG.
• Slightly reduced the range penalty for the suppressor on the SCAR-H.
• Slightly reduced the range penalty for the suppressor on 5.56mm, 5.45mm, and 6.5mm weapons: AR, Carbine, and LMG.
• Slightly reduced the range bonus added by the heavy barrel on the 5.56mm, 5.45mm, 6.5mm Assault Rifles.
• Increased the damage of the M5K.

A select set of weapons have had their recoil adjusted based on joint community feedback and statistical analysis to provide greater balance in the weapon choices players make. Specifically, the M16A3 and M4A1 have increased recoil to make them less attractive in all situations. Competing weapons like the SG553, G36C and M416 have been improved to also increase viable player choice in primary weapons.
• SG553: Horizontal recoil reduced to help make this weapon more controllable.
• MG36: Vertical recoil reduced to make this weapon more controllable.
• M416: Vertical, Horizontal, and First Shot recoil have all been reduced to make this weapon clearly different from the M16A3.
• M16A3: Recoil amounts slightly increased.
• M4A1: Recoil amounts slightly increased.
• G36C: Vertical and First Shot recoil amounts reduced.
• M16A4 and M4: These weapons have been adjusted for the increased recoil they now have. The burst versions of these weapons give the player a reduction in horizontal recoil for greater control.

Miscellaneous weapons changes

• FIM92 and IGLA now lock on to air vehicles at both lower altitudes and longer distances.
• Added Burst Fire to the M5K as an available fire mode.
• Increased the bonuses provided by a number of bipods: F2000, G3A3, M27, M416, Pecheneg, Type88, FAMAS, MG36
• Belt Fed Machine guns are now more accurate when standing and firing while aiming. This affects the M240, M249, Type88, Pecheneg, and LSAT.
• 44 Magnum: Rate of fire reduced slightly to highlight this side arm’s role as a slow firing heavy hitter and differentiate it from the MP412 REX.
• Increased the fire rate and reload time of the MP412 REX to better highlight the improved CQB performance over the 44 Magnum.
• Removed burst fire from the L85 and added Single Shot to the L86 as is authentic for these weapons.
• Slightly increased the radius for maximum damage of the 40mm LVG. While the overall damage level remains the same, the LVG will be lethal over a larger area.
• Reduced the aimed accuracy bonus of the M417 with a suppressor to balance it with the other weapons in the game.
• Increased the aimed accuracy bonus of the ACW-R, L86 LSW, LSAT, MP5K and MTAR with a suppressor to balance with the other weapons in the game.

Weapons fixes

• Underslung weapons on the AUG and SCAR-L now properly benefit from the hip accuracy bonus of an attached laser sight.
• The SOFLAM will no longer lock onto your own vehicle if deployed and not immediately activated by the player.
• SCAR-L: Fixed the heavy barrel not increasing recoil when zoomed and standing.
• Corrected some incorrect descriptions of clip sizes and bullet types for weapons added in Close Quarters: M5K, LSAT, and ACW-R
• The PKS-07 is now available on QBB-95
• The M417’s foregrip was incorrectly reducing horizontal recoil by too large an amount. It has been adjusted to be balanced with other foregrips.
• The ACR Foregrip, MG36, QBB-95 and RPK Extended magazines as well as the RPK and SKS Heavy Barrel are now able to be unlocked and equipped in the accessory screen.
• Fixed an issue with incorrect damage for the M320 buck when used with certain attachments.
• MK3A1 now uses flechette rounds instead of Frag rounds in Gun Master mode (in Close Quarters).

VEHICLE RELATED TWEAKS & FIXES

• Removed flares from gunner position in helicopters. With the right combination of unlocks, an attack helicopter could be effectively invulnerable to lock on missiles. Removing the flares from the gunner balances the attack helicopter against ground fire.
• Air Radar now shows friendly vehicles as well.
• Helicopter weapons can now destroy equipment with splash damage.
• The Laser Designator unlock on the Scout Helicopters has been changed from a Pilot Upgrade to a new stance in the Copilot seat (position 4). Like the CITV turret on the Main Battle Tanks, the Scout Helicopter’s Laser Designator is permanently available to players who have received the unlock.
• Repair tool damage against enemy vehicles lowered by 10%.
• Changed reload behavior on Tank / Tank Destroyer cannon weapons to prevent being able to fire 2 shots from different weapons quickly one right after another.
• Firing mode can now be seen from the vehicle passenger seats where you are allowed to fire your own weapons.
• Fixed the hit indicator showing when entering a vehicle after previously shooting a soldier.
• Increased the damage helicopter and jet rockets do to helicopters, jets and infantry.
• Increased the damage helicopter gunners and IFVs do to helicopters and jets.
• Fixed Jets not getting top attack damage bonuses on Laser Designated targets.

PERSISTENCE RELATED TWEAKS & FIXES

• Changed how MCOM station defend/attack kill score is calculated. Victim no longer needs to arm/disarm the crate but rather be in a 5 meter radius of the crate. Also increased kills needed for the Crate Defend Ribbon from 2 to 4. Overall, these changes should make it somewhat easier to get the ribbon, while increasing the opportunity for strategic play around MCOM stations.
• Premium Engineer assignments are now counting all shotgun kills independent from the class using it.
• Fixed so you can get score from awards in coop.
• Accuracy dogtags now show the correct stats.
• Coop Stars and dogtag are now properly unlockable and equip able.
• Gun Master and Domination Winner ribbons and medals added.
• Fix for assignment with multiple dependencies showing as unlocked in frontend. (Jack of All Trades & Only for the Dedicated)

UI RELATED TWEAKS & FIXES

• Added letters to the capture point icons displayed directly over the mini-map.
• Fixed the grenade counter acting strangely when entering a vehicle with a grenade in hand.
• Fixed the damage indicator which showed the wrong direction if the damage dealer was dead.
• Fixed the hit indicator showing when spawning or closing the in game menu.
• PC specific: Fixed laser designator related icons disappearing from the screen when you enable the chat.
• Fixed a bug where the clan tag sometimes shows as the player ID.
• Added clan tags in nametags and kill card.
• PC specific: Fixed the vehicle hit indicator being shown each time you re-enter the first person camera of a ground vehicle.
• Fixed so commorose VO works when sitting in an AA vehicle.
• Fixed so you get the critical health fullscreen color tint while in the post revive state.
• Removed the join button in the server list for non-Premium users on Premium exclusive servers.
• Fixed so the spawn menu always disappears when you are revived.
• Bugfix the colorblind objectives showing the wrong icons and blinking with a black background.
• Fixed M-Com distance not updating if user moves towards it with EOD Bot.
• Mortar strike explosions are now shown on the HUD for the shooter.

MISCELLANEOUS TWEAKS & FIXES

• Fixed so the MAV gadget will not remain floating in midair if the user exits it while still flying.
• Fixed bug where it was possible to shoot while transitioning from sprint into prone.
• Fixed so you can’t revive a player who switched team since he died.
• Fixed two exploits on Donya Fortress that allowed players to get on top of the level.
• Fixed bug where you could get an incorrectly calculated longest headshot with the EOD bot.
• PS3/Xbox 360 specific: Added map rotation settings to preset list in detailed server info. Players can now see all relevant settings that are being run on the server.
• Xbox 360 specific: Introduced a clickable promotional spot on the main menu.

The holiday season is upon us and as always has given us the most overpopulated release window of the year. With huge titles such as Gears Of War 3, Uncharted 3, Battlefield 3 and of course Modern Warfare 3 finally in the hands of gamers, it is understandable that copies of Halo: Reach have been put back into their cases in homes across the world. As a result our Halo Reach Championship has taken a recent hit in popularity in both views and entries. It is very likely that this current dip in popularity may only be temporary but the championship simply can’t continue as it is.

As we simply don’t have enough people entering the championship to maintain weekly matches the unfortunate outcome is that we have to end the championship, for now at least. This was not a decision I took likely but is one thats simply unavoidable. This is however not the end of tournament gameplay on Games Thirst. The HRC will likely make return in the future and a Halo 4 Championship is almost a given. You won’t have to wait until then though. Matthew DeVito is currently working on a new championship for a certain popular warfare game that will boast a new tournament hub on the site. It’s a sad goodbye to something that many people enjoyed watching and taking part in but don’t worry, there’s a brighter future for competitive gaming on Games Thirst.

Thanks to everything who helped with the championship and everyone who competed. Want to check back on any matches that you missed then see everything bellow.

It can be extremely frustrating when you turn on your PS3 for a couple hours gaming only to discover that you have to sit through a 30 minute update while you twiddle your thumbs. Sony understand that this is an issue and is set to resolving it with it’s upcoming handheld, the Playstation Vita.

Yoshida told Game Informer that the time it takes to update the PS3 firmware is extensive. “It’s very annoying when you only have one hour in your busy life to play a game, and when you to spend 30 minutes out of that one hour to update the hardware.”

“So it’s not necessarily the frequency of how we update, it’s the intrusiveness of the current process we have on PS3 and PSP.” While not going into specific plans for the Vita’s update system, he stated that Sony is “very aware of the issues, and we’d like to address those issues on PS Vita.”

In last weeks game of the HRC we saw our slowest game yet, the excitement did ramp up towards the end but minutes of inactivity resulted in some unfortunately dull moments. After some negative feedback it was obvious that something would have to change, so I changed something. If you are a fan of the championship or fancy entering, then keep reading for some major alterations to your championship.

The big change to the championship is with the route you have to take to challenge in a game. Each week will now have an qualifying game played before the HRC match. This game will be a 4 player FFA game with the winner qualifying to challenge the champion. The player in second place will be able to enter to qualifier in future weeks but the two other player will not be able to re-enter. This will increase the quality of players and decrease the waiting time for entering.

The qualifying matches will use the same gametype as standard matches with teams disables. The maps will be a rotation of Zealot, Asylum and Powerhouse. If you have already entered the championship then you do not need to re-enter but the date of your game will have changed. You will be informed of your new date and time soon. The qualifying matches will be edited and commentated but actual game will remain the same. The gameplay will now also be posted on Fridays instead of Thursdays. This is due to the longer amount of time it will take to edit, render and upload the two separate videos.

The only official way to enter the championship is to email “GT_HRC@live.com”. This is because I am not also notified when a comment is posted (on youtube) and it is easier to reply via email. This is also the best way to ask any questions or to give feedback about the championship.

Please let us know what you think of this addition to the championship or if you have any questions.

See the first 5 games of the championship bellow-

The third game of the Halo: Reach championship has been played and commentated and it doesn’t disappoint. The good news is that it’s our closest game yet but the bad news is that you are going have to wait a little longer before you can see it.

If you have been on Halo: Reach recently then you could have experienced a host of issues including the game not displaying ranks, not getting any credits and no access to your file share. Because of this I have only been able to the perspective of one of our players. I should be able to record the other players point of view Friday night and get the game up by Saturday afternoon. I apologise for the wait but hopefully you will consider it worth it.

While you wait why not check out our previous games –

The first game of our Halo: Reach championship was played last week and was with all things considered a success. With almost entirely positive feedback and people challenging all the way to September it would seem that the championship will have a bright future. However this is still just the beginning of the championship so we were destined not get everything perfect. If you were planning to/have already entered the championship then please take some time to read these small alterations.

- I will no longer be taking part in the championship personally. I will however be present before and after each game to ensure everything is fair and to record the gameplay. Unless instructed otherwise you should not start your game until I have spoken/messaged you.

-The maps that are available to be played on have been reduced. The lesser know maps have been removed to ensure games are fair for both competitors. Anchor 9, The Cage, Atom, Think Twice, Dreadnought, Magus, Ellipse and Prophet are no longer available.

-Available maps: Powerhouse, Reflection, Zealot, Asylum, Pinnacle, Cliffhanger, Treasury, Select, Rebirth.

-All maps have to be downloaded from the file share of “stampylongnose”. Message me requesting what map you want to play on and I will upload it (even the original maps).

-The maps are un-edited but have reduced ammo in some power weapons (similar to what you would find the team doubles playlist).

If you would like to enter then either leave a comment on this page or email “GT_HRC@live.com”. Please include your gamertag in your email.

Click Here for all of the rules.

Just in case you missed the first game here it is again.

‘Everything must come to end’, they say, and the nightmare PlayStation 3 owners had to suffer when PSN was hacked, leaving tens of millions offline and unable to purchase content has ended. The PlayStation Store is back with a massive update.

Rejoice!

The update come ready with demos like Red Faction: Armageddon and Motorstorm Apocalypse. Full games include Sega Rally Online, Outland, Under Siege and Back to the Future: Episode 3 and lots more. Amongst the DLC throng, you’ll see Fallout: New Vegas Honest Hearts, Crysis 2 map pack Retaliation and a plethora of Rock Band songs and packs are part of the DLC update.

There’s also a next update scheduled for tomorrow, as Sony tries to bring the store up-to-date.

Japan’s store hasn’t returned, and according to Sony, that’s because it’s complying with instructions on information security from the Japanese government.

It’s a big update, this one, so get the full lot over at the US PS Blog.
