EA says that the additional time will let the game become “even better”.

“I want to update everyone on Titanfall for Xbox 360 in development with Bluepoint Games,” said EA Studios EVP Patrick Soderlund. “I’ve been playing the game a lot, and it is fantastic. But we see a few things that can be made even better, so we’re giving Bluepoint a little more time to do just that and deliver an epic Titanfall experience for Xbox 360 players.

“Titanfall for Xbox 360 will now be releasing on April 8 in North America, and beginning on April 11 in Europe. The game will feature the same 6v6 gameplay, maps, modes, weapons and Burn Cards as the Xbox One and PC versions of the game.”

Less than two weeks before launch, Titanfall for Xbox 360 still don’t have a solid framerate that Respawn Entertainment can talk about, however the developer says that Bluepoint, the studio behind the port, has been doing a great job and that the guys at Respawn have been playing it “everyday”.

That’s according to Respawn engineer Richard Baker, speaking to Digital Foundry in a Titanfall tech interview.

“Bluepoint’s developing [the Xbox 360 version] and we’ve mostly been hands-off, letting them make their own technical decisions,” Baker said. “It seems pretty close [in terms of] feature parity and they’re still working on getting the frame-rate up. I’m not sure about the resolution…”

Not a good sign that the Xbox 360 version of the game isn’t where it’s supposed to be, and that has some Xbox 360 owners worried that the port won’t live up to expectations. And it’s a valid concern because Titanfall is a very technical game that struggles performance-wise even on Xbox One, so it’ll be interesting to see the game’s final resolution and framerate on Microsoft’s aging console.

Said Patrick Soderlund, executive vice president of EA Studios:

In these last few weeks before launch, Respawn is in the final stages of polishing the Xbox One and PC versions of the game. Bluepoint is doing the same with the Xbox 360 version. To give them the time they need to put the finishing touches on the current-gen version of the game, we are moving the Xbox 360 ship date to March 25 in North America and March 28 in Europe. The extra two weeks will ensure the full world of Xbox gamers has an awesome experience.

It’s quite surprising that the Xbox 360 game got delayed knowing how competent of a developer Bluepoint is, however giving the game more polish can’t hurt I suppose.

Bluepoint games are currently developing the Xbox 360 version of Titanfall, studio head Vince Zampella revealed via twitter.

Speculation has been running rampant ever since it was made known that Respawn Entertainment themselves would not be developing the title for Xbox 360, so this revelation sets minds at ease Bluepoint Games has an excellent track record.

A quick history on Bluepoint Games, courtesy IGN:

The Austin, Texas developer started up in 2006, founded by Andy O’Neil and Marco Thrush, two veterans of Metroid Prime and Retro Studios. Bluepoint released its first game, Blast Factor, that year, before becoming the industry’s go-to studio for HD remakes and re-releases.

Sony recruited Bluepoint for God of War Collection, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale on Vita, and Flower on PS4 and Vita. Konami used Bluepoint for the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection as well.

This is a studio whose strength is in porting games, and doing a fine job of it — all of these collections feature improved visuals, frame rates, and other technical benefits that make them great. In hindsight, Bluepoint almost seems like the obvious choice for Titanfall on Xbox 360.

Also of note: In July 2013, Bluepoint hired Kynan Pearson — another ex-Retro designer who recently served as Halo 4′s lead multiplayer level designer at 343 Industries. Pearson serves as creative director.

You won’t be able to play Titanfal with your Xbox 360 friends if you buy the game on Xbox One and vice versa, nor will you be able to shoot down mechs with the PC community, Respawn Entertainment has confirmed.

“We will be able to offer dedicated servers on Xbox 360,” Respawn Entertainment community manager Abbie Heppe confirmed to Videogamer. “Obviously… Xbox 360 players are not going to be playing with Xbox One players, they’re not going to be playing with PC; those will be separated groups.”

Heppe went on to discuss the Xbox 360 version further, revealing that it was not being developed by a major studio, but stressed that Respawn Entertainment was working closely with the team to make sure it’s the best possible.

“We haven’t said [who is developing the 360 port yet] and I don’t think I can say right now because I would be worried that now they’re going to get inundated and I haven’t prepared them. I should probably talk to them first! But we’re working really closely with them.

“Obviously we want the Xbox 360 version to be as good as it can be so our producer works with them constantly and is making sure that it definitely has our oversight.”

She continued: “But since we’re still working on the [Xbox 360] port and all the feature sets for it, I honestly don’t know [how different it will be] yet. Once we reach the end of that we’ll be able to more specifically lay out what the differences between the two will be. Obviously there will be some, but we don’t even know. It’s one of those, like, ‘How much can we fit in before we have to go to cert’?”

Titanfall will release in spring 2014 on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC. Rumor has it the game will also be released on PS4.
