While Sumo Digital are leading development of LittleBigPlanet 3, IP creator Media Molecule is partnering with the studio to make sure that the third console installment of the game stays true to its roots.

That’s according to SCEE boss Jim Ryan, speaking to GameReactor in a recent interview, adding that the LittleBigPlanet franchise is “close to the hearts” of [Media Molecule].

“Sumo Digital, very talented developers, we’re really happy to be working with them. There is involvement from Media Molecule. You know, Little Big Planet is something that is very close to hearts of those guys, they’re not going to let completely go of it, but it is Sumo who is developing it and that partnership is working real well.”

The game was shown at Sony’s E3 press conference in June, and will hit PS3, PS Vita and PS4 later this year.

Thanks, Videogamer.

Hey there fellow chaps! You noticed my posts are few and somehow far in between. This is mostly because I’ve been messed with by Sony for the past 3 days. My second PS3 gave me the YLOD, and I was infuriated with the situation, because the only way they saw was to give me another refurbished one. But, I just opened it, fixed it, and now it works like a charm.

In the meanwhile, without my PS3, I invested my time on my LittleBigPlanet Vita copy, which I got days earlier than its official release date. That said, only one thing is holding me back from posting my review; the servers won’t be working properly until the 25th, and so far, I’ve had no luck on finding anyone to play with, checking out what costumes are available for cross-buy, etc. But, for the single-player portion only, I can say I’m very, very satisfied. There’s a ton of side-games, the graphics are top-notch, the charm is there, the game is truly polished; it really is the definitive LBP game, and with the cross-buy options, it is a great deal. Throw in online features (levels and such), and you instantly get much more than your money’s worth – as if you hadn’t already.

Plus, I picked up my Borderlands 2 Deluxe Vault Hunter’s Edition (the Loot Chest was cancelled on the last day for Greece, I was lucky to find this), so you can expect a Borderlands 2 review in the next week as well. I can see me not sleeping for a day, just to play the game for 24 hours straight and post the review, I’m THAT excited about Zer0.

I will pick up the pace again, and post more news and generally items, starting from today. Crash out!

Most of the costumes will be available for LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet 2, LittleBigPlanet Vita and LittleBigPlanet Karting.

The only two costumes not available from the get-go are the Assassin’s Creed costumes and the April Fools Fragrance costume. The reason for this is unexplained, but the developer said everything will be available eventually.

LittleBigPlanet Karting is coming to the PlayStation 3 November 6, and LittleBigPlanet Vita is set for release September 25.

These five games made PS3.

When it comes to exclusives, Microsoft should run and hide itself in a corner when compared to Sony’s PS3. The console is home to the biggest exclusive games ever imagined. Don’t get me wrong, Xbox 360 has Halo and Gears of War, but when matched against PS3′s lofty lineup, nothing comes close. But although the console can boast many exclusive games, there are five titles that literally made the console the respectable machine it is today, and although it wasn’t an easy choice, we’ve chosen PS3′s five biggest exclusives of all time.

5) LittleBigPlanet: When LittleBigPlanet came along, it took the gaming world by storm. Everybody was talking about it and there’s a reason for that. The game changed the way we think about platformers forever. It was so innovative, so popular and so interactive, that almost everyone was into it. Young, in-between and old. LittleBigplanet set a new precedent, and is the fifth biggest PS3 game of all time, helping to define the console. Media Molecule, the developer behind the game was recently acquired by Sony, so expect to see more LittleBigPlanet in the future, or maybe even something new.

4) God of War 3: God of War. The name says it all. Kratos embarked on his god-killing mission over 2yrs ago, but even today the game plays like it was newly developed. It scored 9s and 10s across the boards, and is THE hack-n-slash game other similar titles get compared to. The visuals, even today, are bar none, and no other game in its genre competes. God of War 3 is not only a PS3-define title, the Santa Monica effort is a generation defining master piece of work. We hear work has already begun on God of War 4.

3) Uncharted 2: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is a great game. Not without its issues, yet great nonetheless. But nothing, and I repeat nothing comes close to the masterpiece that’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. It’s the only game I’ve played this generation five times over, and the only one that’s gotten me so enthralled in a story that I thought I was actually acting a role in a first class film! When the first game, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was released, it represented the potential there was in PS3, but when Uncharted 2 came on the scene, that potential was fully realized. I think it’s the best crafted game PS3 has even seen, and nothing they’ve done to date, not even Uncharted 3, can outperform the stellar actioner.

Naughty Dog’s effort didn’t only help define the seventh generation and the recognition of videogames as art, it helped the portrayal of the medium as formidable and relevant. Not that games have ever been irrelevant, just some of the media folks, (cough, Fox News, cough), can’t seem to accept that videogames have indeed come a long way.

2) Killzone 2: The E3 2005 trailer was infamous, yet stunning. When Killzone 2 came on the scene, everything else made room. It took the world by storm with this trailer:

The rest was history. Killzone 2 is the second biggest PS3 exclusive because it showed the console as formidable competition in the shooter department to the Xbox 360′s Halo. The game was also excellent, and even today, some fans will tell you they love it more than KZ3.

In its time, the visuals were unheard of. The controls were weighty, the action was mesmerizing and multiplayer was epic. It was immense. When Killzone 2 came out, PS3 owners finally had an exclusive shooter to call their own, and for that reason, it’s the second biggest PlayStation exclusive, ever.

And the biggest PS3 exclusive game of all time is……drum roll……

1) Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots: Snake, snake, snaaaaaaaaake! If there is one title that helped in making the PS3 what it is today, it’d have to be Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 4. After having developed MGS 1 on PSone, and MGS 2&3 on PS2, Guns of The Patriots was set to see a release on PS3. The anticipation was high, and in a time when PS3 was struggling to keep up, having a hefty price and releasing a year later than Xbox 360, Sony was in desperate need of a hit game to bolster the machine’s image. Metal Gear Solid 4 did it. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it was after MGS4 released the perception of PS3 being a failure by the media began to subside. No one could “diss” the console any longer by calling it irrelevant. Metal Gear Solid 4 was here!

The game helped move hundreds of thousands of PS3 units upon release, (over 400,000) was sold in the month of MGS’s release) and the game itself has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. Yet it’s not the sales, it’s the game. Metal Gear Solid is a franchise that console developers like Microsoft would pay any amount to see as part of its console lineup, and the mere fact the game’s exclusive to PS3 speaks volume. Kojima’s simply a legend.

Happy birthday PS3. Now on to Metal Gear Solid 5.

Gaming. The best pass time ever. You’ll never get bored enjoying the countless experiences available in said entertainment form. You like shooting people? We have shooters. Rather haunt treasures you say? Try Uncharted. How about taking the battle to another galaxy? Halo’s you game. And maybe you rather the good ole platformers, and that’s where Mario comes in.

The industry’s innovated too. Now you can enjoy motion gaming with Wii, PS Move and the revolutionary Kinect, and if you’re still seeking more immersion, Sony’s leading the 3D gaming front. It’s a never-ending joyride with gaming, and as long as I live, I can’t see myself quiting.

But maybe you’re tired. Maybe the big companies like Activision and EA’s gotten to you, proving your suspicions that they only care about the bottom line. You hate the fact that COD is released on a yearly basis, and the fact EA’s joined the train with Battlefield: Bad Company doesn’t help either.

You’re also tired of the fanboy wars that rage on incessantly, and finally you’re tired of Pachter’s lies.

We at Games Thirst understand, and since this is a free country, no one can tell you what to do. You want to quit gaming forever, then do it. But if you’d give us just about 200 word count, we’d give you five games your must play before you leave. It’s like the last kiss before you wife boards a plane, or the last dance before prom night’s over. It’s the water Jesus turned into wine at a wedding ceremony, and the honey at the bottom of the hive.

Before you leave, play these five games.

LittleBigPlanet

There are times in history when something or someone comes along that changes the way we do certain things forever. Indeed, the advent of Facebook changed the way we communicated, Google revolutionized search, Apple certainly changed the way we talk and listen to music with the iPhone and iPod Touch, and Nintendo altered our motion gaming perceptions for good.

It’s in this same vein I speak of LittleBigPlanet. It’s the first game that allowed so much freedom to the user in providing them the tools to create whatever they want. The platformer received many game of the year awards and even prompted Sony to acquire the company responsible, Media Molecule.

Playing the game gives you hope that there’s yet room for innovation and creativity in the industry. It’ll make you feel like you’re playing Mario Bros. but at the same time it’s so very different.

The first game is packed with fun in the single player, but the multiplayer has over one million user created levels, some that are even better than what Media Molecule created to play in.

And now, next Tuesday, the second installment will be hitting store shelves at a retailer near you. Get it, oh weary gamer, it might just convince you to stay.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots

The reason why I chose the last installment in this long running franchise, it’s because it tries hard to bring understanding to the entire plot and give gamers a sense of what really happened. Metal Gear Solid’s a game every gamer should play, I think. One of the first that took gaming into the mainstream and gave it recognition as art. The story will sometimes trip you up but you’ll love it all the same.

Never before have I been so connected to a character’s history but Metal Gear Solid’s a game that will do that to you. There’s no other game in the stealth action genre that even comes close.

In fact, I’d say just playing Guns Of The Patriots would be enough to change your mind of leaving gaming, but read on, there’s at least three more.

Donkey Kong Country: Returns

So here’s the thing, I haven’t played Donkey Kong Country Returns, but by all means go play it. It’s Donkey Kong! You cant possibly quit without playing one of THE games that made this industry relevant.

You just can’t. I’ll buy a Wii just to play that game.

Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2′s a game that drags you in and never lets go once you’ve started. In fact, I’d say there’s no other WRPG so engaging and enthralling at the same time.

But the reason you must play this game before you abandon your favorite pass time is because when playing you get the sense that you’re part of something bigger and greater than you. Bioware, the game’s developer, built upon what was already great and made it greater. You also get to make choices that impacts the outcome of the game.

It’s been an Xbox 360 exclusive for the consoles since the first installment, but last year Bioware announced its arrival to PS3 at GamesCom. The studio’s also boasting that the PS3 version’s better so if you haven’t experienced it, get it.

It’d be a shame to leave the industry and not play at least one Mass Effect game.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

All the buzz on PlayStation these days surrounds Nathan Drake. He’s the main protagonist of this third person shooter that’s taken the gaming world by storm.

The reasons why you should play this game before you quit are many, but I’ll try to select the most outstanding pieces. It’s essentially the best looking game on any home console, and it’d be good to go out knowing you’ve played the game that accomplished this. Uncharted 2′s also the closest the gaming industry’s gotten to outdoing Hollywood in what’s essentially a feature film. Some of the best narration you’ll hear anywhere’s found in Uncharted 2, and the actors play their role superbly.

The gameplay is great and responsive, the game’s world doesn’t limit you either, and by the time you get to the “Train Wreck”, you might just forget and quitting gaming altogether.

Come to think of it, the reason why you probably thought of leaving, is because you hadn’t played these five games. Have you changed your mind?

The franchise is officially Sony’s Mario, so when the Australian Classification Board hinted at yet another Sackboy adventure even before the latest run is out, we weren’t surprised at all.

The Australian organization’s rated “Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves” for release. And as Siliconera points out, this will be a Move-centric release, thanks to the title and Media Molecule’s development partner for the project, Supermassive (the team behind Start the Party and Tumble).

You go, Sackboy. Thing is, though, I just can’t see the franchise going beyond LittleBigPlanet 2, the game’s already all games in one.

Truly, when Media Molecule sat in their lab looking to forge a new gaming experience, I’m sure none would’ve imagine LittleBigPlanet to be what it is today.

There is no better platformer this generation. None, I reckon.

Below the break, check out some off-screen footage showing three-player co-op action.

Video Thirst: It Wins

Yes, the game simply wins. Quench it:

LBD2 was supposed to see a release this year but was pushed back to January 2011 so it could
“live up to the reputation established by Media Molecule“.

The wait won’t be too long, though, January 18th’s just around the bend.

There’s something revolutionary happening at Sony Erricsson, something so cool, it might change the smartphone landscape forever.

Ever wanted to talk to your girlfriend and flirt with Uncharted 2′s Chloe at the same time?

Ah, your little dream might just become a reality.

According to Engadget, Sony Ericsson’s scientists have joined together a PSPgo and a Samsung Captivate to create the phone/handheld crossover you’ve been yearning for. Some sources have said that the thing looks “pretty damn sexy” and runs on Google’s Android 3.0 OS and support a brand new section of the Android marketplace devoted specifically to games.

And the games thereon? God of War, LittleBigPlanet, and Modern Warfare are among the throng to be announced. Those games will come in the future, but for now, pre-existing PSP and PSX games are being used to demonstrate the hardware.

When will the device be released you ask? Reports claim we’ll see the thing land in October. Be prepared for the downside, however, as you’ll most likely ignore all your calls from now onwards.

I mean, who wants to be interrupted by their grand dad while taking on Hercules?

Not me. Nonetheless, this is intriguing stuff.

See Engadget’s mock-up below:

When something’s revolutionary, don’t expect others to just gaze around in amazement doing nothing. If that’s what people did after a revolution, then it was not such a ground breaking idea in the first place.

I’m sure you remember when the first iPhone went on sale, that thing changed cellphones as we knew it forever. Now, almost every cellphone company on the market has something that resembles Apple’s masterpiece.

In the videogames industry, Media Molecule did something very similar with LittleBigPlant, a title so groundbreaking that Sony saw fit to buy the company. Would others follow? Eventually they would.

EA wasted no time.

Create, is what Electronic Arts decided on naming its new game. Aptly named I must admit.

“Creativity will be unleashed as players design environments with easy-to-use brushes and tools, including textures, props and animating objects that bring the scene to life. On the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and MAC players can share any of their creations, solutions or challenges with the community through the console and also via the official Create website at www.create.ea.com. Friends can download and remix solutions and set challenges for other players to download and complete. Imaginations will run wild this holiday!”

Sounds all too familiar doesn’t it? What did you expect from a revolution?

Here’s to hoping EA’s “LittleBigPlanet” will actually be half as good as Sony and Media Molecule’s. Giving Xbox 360, PC an Mac owners a chance to let their imagination run wild.

And you were so elated weren’t you? The prospects of LittleBigPlanet 2 had you parading around your house, in school and at work. To you, there’s no better platformer; you went around spreading the word all over and now you have to make calls, apologize; contending you jumped the gun too quickly.

Sorry, that’s just the way life is sometimes. Those rumors were simply false.

Speaking to our affiliate, Connected Consoles, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) clarified the situation.

“As demonstrated recently at GDC, LittleBigPlanet has been shown as an example of how an existing game could benefit from PlayStation Move Motion Controller support. This is not a confirmation of LittleBigPlanet 2, and we do not have any announcements to make about the LittleBigPlanet franchise.”

There’s nothing more to add.

Yes it’s official, LittleBigPlanet will be only on PlayStation platforms, and whatever else the studio creates.

Get the PR Below. We’ll keep you posted as more news concerning this development happens.

Acclaimed developer of multi-million selling LittleBigPlanetâ„¢ joins Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios

London, 2nd March 2010 – Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) today announced that it had acquired leading game developer Media Molecule, creator of the multi-million selling and multi-award winning PlayStation®3 (PS3™) exclusive title, LittleBigPlanet™. Media Molecule will join as part of SCE’s global development operation, SCE Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS).

In a strategic move to continue to secure excellence in game development for current and future PlayStation® platforms, the acquisition of Media Molecule formalises the successful exclusive relationship with SCE.

Media Molecule, based in Surrey, England, is the award-winning developer of LittleBigPlanet, one of the best-selling titles for PS3, a game that introduced gamers to the unique ethos of Play, Create and Share. Having seen over 2m user generated levels created for the community to download and play for free, LittleBigPlanet has completely changed the way people interact with games, whilst revolutionising the longevity of gameplay.

Having won over 90 awards for LittleBigPlanet, including 2 BAFTAs and 8 AIAS Interactive Achievement Awards, Media Molecule brings a wealth of experience and a highly talented staff into the SCE WWS family that will further strengthen the PlayStation first party studio.

“Since they burst onto the gaming scene, Media Molecule have proved to be a truly exciting and innovative studio, who have proved their world-class credentials with the creation of the incredible LittleBigPlanet,” said Shuhei Yoshida, President, SCE Worldwide Studios. “SCE WWS is all about creating ambitious, innovative and ground breaking games, traits that Media Molecule clearly have. To bring them into our family proves our dedication to creating fantastic new experiences that we believe will cement our position as industry leaders.”

“Since Media Molecule’s inception, we’ve had a uniquely close relationship with Sony. Over the years they have consistently shown their dedication to Creative Gaming and Media Molecule, not only through their support of the company, but their willingness to take risks and embrace our often unusual approach and ideas.” said Alex Evans, co-founder of Media Molecule. “What we’ve achieved already with LittleBigPlanet has proved this to us and we’re excited by this new chapter of innovation and creative gaming, for all involved.”

Studios across the SCE WWS network share technology, production methodology and creative goals to build the best possible experiences for users to enjoy the most from the PlayStation family of hardware platforms and network services. With over 2,500 employees, SCE WWS combines the talents of 15 game development studios in Japan, the USA, the UK and The Netherlands.

So you’re a hardcore gamer and nothing will change that; not even your wife. You’ve been married for sometime now and it seems because of your gaming habits things are about to go south. What should a gamer do? You love the lady but she wants you to give up on your games. It’s a tough call, one with no easy way out – that is except you can find a solution to get her into it.

It’s not a guarantee but it’s worth a short, after all losing you lady over games is just wrong. Never mention it while making love but after sex (that is if you can stay awake) slip this quote in:

“Hey honey, I know you’re not into gaming but – hold on, don’t respond yet darling. I bought a few games that I think will at least make you understand why I love this pass-time so much. We’re in bed now but say tomorrow, will you please give at least one of them a try?”

If she says yes, tell her about these five games:

5 – Tell her about Sega superstar Tennis (Xbox 360) – The next time you go to a tennis game or choose to watch it on television, look at the audience and notice what gender is the dominant one. Of course it’s the females who love that sport the most. Give your wife the chance to be a superstar in Sega Superstar Tennis for Xbox 360.

Let her play with favorite characters from games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Golden Axe, House of The Dead and Jet Grind Radio. If you’re familiar with Virtua Tennis from Sega, then you should be acquainted with this one in no time, being that it’s just a simplified version of it.

In Sega Superstar Tennis, players fill up a special star-shaped meter as they return shots, fire off servers and keep the motion rolling. Believe me when I tell you, after a couple of games together, you might just find yourself with a brand new wife!

4 – Mention Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo Wii) It’s one of the best selling titles of all time and that stands for something. With twelve new family-friendly mini-games and Nintendo’s new MotionPlus add-on, Get your wife this one, she’ll be glad you did. In Wii sports Resort, not only do you get Nintendo’s new technology, but also a chance to test your luck at Archery, Power Cruising, Bowling, Basketball, Golf, Canoeing, Frisbee, Wakeboarding, Table Tennis, Cycling and Swordplay.

A fun experience your wife will get into easily and before you know, she’ll be spending even more time playing than you. Many sports game to choose from but she’ll definitely enjoy some Swordplay and Archery:

Maybe it’s because she love karate movies, but mostly it’s just the feel of fighting without being hurt by her enemy. I believe it’s the latter. In Swordplay, you simply swing the remote like a sword, holding the B button to block in four directions. To attack you swing in the same directions. You could play two-player duels, a speed slicing contest and the mode which pits a player against an armada of enemy Mii as you find your way along the map. Swordplay is definitely the best game to play on the resort with your wife.

3 – Don’t forget to include Guitar Hero (PS3 & Xbox 360) Women love to sing, but not all can, that’s why we have professionals, but that’s not to say your lady can’t let loose in the living room hitting all the wrong notes and feel good about it. I say why not?

Set her free, make her feel like she’s the best at it, sing with her dance to her voice and at the end of the day, you would have made a believer out of your wife. I know what I’m talking about.

2 – You Must talk about Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo Wii) If she’s in her 20s and up, there’s no way she has not experienced at least one Mario title. The mere mention of it will get her interested. See one of the reasons ladies tend to shun gaming so often is because they think all we guys do is shoot at other guys aimlessly online.

To most of them that’s a turn off of epic proportions and they’re just not interested. But if you could find a way to break that stigma, slowly but surely, your lady will be a gamer even more than you; any Mario game would help, but the new Wii title will do the best job

1 – LittleBigPlanet is your best shot and will surely convince your lady to play. Seriously, my own experience is the best story I can tell:

So, my wife was never into gaming like most of yours and like most of you, I’d use the wrong tactics to try and win her over. I remember when I convinced her to play Resistance 2, what the hec was wrong with me? Resistance 2!? Surely she got rushed by a Chimera and left the room screaming, promising herself never to play again. But then, I got LittleBigPlanet and all changed.

It’s a lengthy story so I’ll make it shot and sweet. We started playing the game as a team and overtime I’d be in bed, and my wife would still be playing in the wee hours of the morning. Liten to me, buy LittleBigPlanet and introduce the game to your wife, she’ll never bother you about gaming again. Ever.

At least one out of the five will more than likely win your lady over and into the entertainment form, but you must remember to do one last crucial thing, perhaps the most critical of all: You MUST let her win…..all the time.
