When Square-Enix touched down in the U.K. and acquired one of the country’s most respected developers, many hailed death would come to the creators of the venerable Tomb Raider franchise. That, however, didn’t happen, and according to U.K. gaming founder Ian Livingstone, the reason is because the publisher from the east wasn’t trying to take a western developer and turn it into a Japanese games creator, but instead to tap into an audience it never was able to reach full circle: a global one, something the acquisition of Eidos help make possible.

Rumor: New Tomb Raider In The Works, Features Younger Lara

Lara’s gettig old, wouldn’t you agree? Seriously, the last time a had a decent adventure with the woman was way back when PSone’s visuals were the “it” of the day. Back then, Lara Croft was sexy, young, stunning, intelligent, and sold millions of games, back then. Now, the lady’s gotten old and tired — selling nothing close to what she’s used to.

So what’s the solution, then? Should the British queen retire her jersey and call it quits, or should Eidos, the franchise’s originator, do a total revamp of Ms. Croft and her game?

Bank of the latter.

Rumor Thirst; New Tomb Raider title in the works

According to Eurogamer, a full blown new Tomb Raider title is already in the works at Crystal Dynamics, and will be out by next Christmas.
