After Confusion Over Who Handles PS3 Best, Ted Price Issues Challenge To The Press

by Ernice Gilbert on October 20th, 2010, under Insomniac Games, News

Two days ago, we ran a piece titled Insomniac: No One Can Handle The PS3 Like We Do, in it, Ted Price was quoted as saying he thinks Insomniac developers handled the “PS3′s SPUs more effectively (in my opinion) than anyone else in the business”.

Here’s the exact quote taken from EGM:

“First and foremost, I think we have a world-class engine team,” Ted Price, Insomniac Games boss told EGM magazine in a recent interview. “In particular, they focus heavily on using the PS3′s SPUs more effectively (in my opinion) than anyone else in the business.”

Later adding: “However, we spent a lot of time going back and reworking systems we had just barely finished in time for the PS3 launch.

Whenever you have a chance to revisit tech, it’s a great opportunity to improve things,” Price continued, “basically everything got a facelift and it allowed us to do more with our visuals, audio and gameplay.”

Price, however, said he was misquoted and thought he’d respond to the situation on Insomniac Games blog. And although he admitted that he was a bit upset at first, he realized it’s the right of free speech we have it this country that allows us to express ourselves freely in the media.

Insomniac Games community manager, Paul Featherstone, even came here on this thread to clarify the situation. But instead of making one big ugly mess with confusion, Mr. Price, in what to me is one of the most generous displays of humility, decided to make a positive out of the negative and rally gamers against the California law sitting at the US Supreme Court now.

He’s thoughts past the jump.

Insomniac: “If It Hadn’t Been For Sony, We Wouldn’t Be Where We Are Now”

When news broke that Insomniac Games had reached a deal with EA Partners to release their next big game, one that will see a release on PS3 and Xbox 360, gaming’s web had much to say about the development. Was it a good move to part ways with Sony and start doing multiplatform titles? Will it make any difference at all?

Many questions were asked and varying opinions still linger today, the main thing is, though, Insomniac Games remains independent and gets to dictate its own future, something studio boss Ted Price appreciates. For him, it was never about the money, and yet he’s extremely grateful to Sony for being a great partner for so long.

He reckons Insomniac would not be where it is today if Sony hadn’t played such an instrumental role

This Is Why Insomniac Is The Best Game Developer In The Industry

by Ernice Gilbert on July 10th, 2010, under Insomniac Games, News

Gaming, it’s grand. It’s the best thing that has ever happened to a lonely kid with no friends to hang with, and the guy with many friends to play with. Overtime, it’s become one of the biggest industries in entertainment, and with yearly gains and by-monthly innovations, things could only go up from here.

There are many parts that come together affording this engine to run smooth, mind you. But arguably the most important part of the engine are the game developers. Without them, there would be no gaming experience at all. Many times the media place its focus on the big three and forget the reasons why they’re profitable.

You’re anticipating Gears of War 3 not from Microsoft, but from Epic Games. inFamous 2 is coming your way in 2011 because the guys and gals at Sucker Punch forged it. Halo is the biggest Xbox 360 franchise because of the few people at Bungie who dared to dream big, and we would’ve never known Ratchet And Clank, Spyro the Dragon or Resistance without Insomniac Games.

Scant Details On Insomniac’s New Game

by Ernice Gilbert on May 27th, 2010, under News

Renowned development studio, Insomniac Games is the buzz of the gaming industry now. After staying loyal to the PlayStation platforms for over 14yrs, it recently reached a deal with EA Partners that allows them to develop a multiplatform title.

Ted Price has said that one of their goals for a very long time was to own the Intellectual Property of the games they create, but currently owns none they’ve released thus far. Ratchet And Clank, Spyro the Dragon and the Resistance franchises are all owned by Sony; so the deal with EA Partners, according to Price, was a win-win situation.

Although details about the game are scares, Ted Price released a few tidbits in an recent interview with Eurogamer.
