by Joseph Garrett on June 23rd, 2011, under First Look, Sega, Video Thirst

The Sonic franchise has had it’s fair share of highs and lows over the last 20 years of titles. The the extreme highs of beautiful graphics and fast paced gameplay that were seen in the first three games, to the disappointing lows of countless spinoffs and failed tentative steps into 3D plains. But while the past 20 years spent with the worlds most famous blue hedgehog have had their fair share of disappointments, it looks like we will be celebrating Sonics 20th birthday with a bang.

First Look: Sega Rally Online Arcade

by Joseph Garrett on May 18th, 2011, under First Look, Sega, Video Thirst

Do you remember putting coin after coin into Sega Rally at your local arcade? Me neither, but these ageing rally titles are becoming something of classics. So much so that sega has decided to release a remake of a couple of there most beloved titles. SEGA Rally Revo and SEGA Rally 3 to be exact. But while these games may have been great fun in their times, the real testament to a classic, is when it can withstand the test of time.

Biggest Year In Gaming History Will Be 2011, Massive Game Release Schedule Unveiled

by Ernice Gilbert on January 5th, 2011, under Hot, Microsoft, News, Nintendo, Sony

You know what? I’ll call it: 2011 will usher gaming into new realms. From 3D gaming, the Kinect revolution, which, by the way, technology developer PrimeSense is taking to PCs. We have the PSP2, the 3DS and probably the WiiHD or Wii2 coming all this year. That’s on the hardware side of things alone.

As for software, 2011 trumps all the years before it like a bulldozer ridding a piece of land of its grass. This year alone we’ll have Killzone 3, Gears of War 3, another Call of Duty, not to mention Black Ops DLC. Bulletstorm, Uncharted 3, Resistance 3, inFamous 2, Dead Space 2, Mass Effect 2 and so on.

Thankfully, GameInformer’s forged up a massive list featuring a release schedule for all platforms this year, including the DS and PSP. Apparently, according to the author, Far Cry 3 will be released in August of this year. Don’t know where he got that from so we’ll have to wait to hear more.

Either ways, hit the link, I think you’ll get to understand better why gaming’s all the buzz this year, and why it’ll leave many a gamer broke. Dead broke.

Shenmue III? Yeah? No Way

by Ernice Gilbert on November 2nd, 2010, under Hot, News, Sega

Why oh why Sega do you tease us but never demonstrate anything solid? We’re like kids, then, waiting for a happy meal that was promised but end up leaving the fast-food joint hungry.

Even so, Sega West boss Mike Hayes has gone on record stating as far as its concerned, Shenmue III is never off the table, saying “never say never” to the likelihood.

by Ernice Gilbert on July 13th, 2010, under News, Sega

So you thought Sega’s been on a downward spiral ever since Alpha Protocol flopped, and the games prior, (save Bayonetta) haven’t performed less than expected? Sega’s paying you no mind. In fact, coming soon will be two big game announcements targeting the hardcore crowd.

At least that’s what the publisher told CVG.

Video Thirst: For Insomniac Games, Vanquish “Plays Like Gears Of War On Crack”

by Ernice Gilbert on July 10th, 2010, under Insomniac Games, News, Sega

Ah Vanquish, many a gamer have been brushing off the TPS as another attempt to win money from the Western gamer, after all, the developers themselves said that Vanquish is geared more towards gamers in that region of the world.

But could the game be more than what we expect? Could Vanquish really turn out to be a serious contender for TPS of the year? Apparently, the guys at Insomniac Games are really enjoying it. You know Gears of War right? Right, then think of Vanquish as said title with a heavy does of “crack”.

Sega: 3D Is “Very Exciting” But Could Make You Nauseous

by Ernice Gilbert on June 26th, 2010, under 3D Gaming, News, Sega

So both Sony and Nintendo are pushing the 3D revolution extremely hard right? Yes, Nintendo released the 3DS to much fanfare at E3, and Sony presented a nice portion of its presser in 3D. The hardware giant is also making 3D a “company-wide” initiative for all its studios to “look into” the technology, and find ways to mesh it into everything.

Well that’s good and all but let’s hope the thing’s not just a ‘passing craze’, because although many have lauded the step Sony and Nintendo have taken, there are many who’ve also pointed out the glaring disadvantages.
