At its press conference on Monday, Sony unveiled for the world PS Vita, coming with a plethora of games and a very good price point. The base model will retail for $249.99 in the U.S., however many analysts thought Sony would not be able to sell the device at that price because it would be too costly. They were wrong, because not only is Sony able to sell the handheld console at the reasonable price, they’ll be making a profit on it from day one.

by Ernice Gilbert on July 27th, 2010, under News, Playstation 3, Sony

I’m thinking of the PlayStation 2. Remember that console? Well it was the recipient of much criticism when it released way back in 2000-2001. Many said the box was too expensive, Sony was making a big mistake and how said system would flop.

It became the best selling console, ever.

The PS3 has also seen its share of hate, with journalist repeating exactly what they predicted would happen to the PS2. They were wrong then, and they’re wrong now. For Sony, it’s about strategy, and strategy will lead them to announce a profit, for the first time in a long time in Q1.

Sony To Announce ¥100 Billion Profit Between October – December Says Nikkei

by Ernice Gilbert on January 28th, 2010, under Playstation 3, PSP, Sony

Up to this day as much we know, Sony hasn’t made a dollar in profit on PS3; yes that’s grim. The PlayStation division of the company suffered many losses because of the technology it chose to insert in said system, making the PS3 for a very long time, the most expensive console on the market. Even when the price came down to $299 just last August and after the system had outsold its competition for many executive months, the giant still suffered massive losses.

But could it be that finally Sony’s about to move from this tough spot with its upcoming earnings report? Because if this news from Nikkei (through routers) is to be believed, the company from the land of the rising sun will see the light of the sun shine directly on it. I’m really encouraged.
