The next Call of Duty game is subtitled “Ghosts”, the most shady name a Call of Duty game has ever been given – and the teaser live-action trailer below the break really tries to help. The game itself will be officially unveiled, including gameplay footage, at Microsoft’s next Xbox unveiling on May 21st. We’ve got more details inside though, including quotes from Infinity Ward, Activision and Microsoft about Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg:

Infinity Ward set the gold standard for first-person action for a generation, and they’re going to do it again with Call of Duty: Ghosts. Ghosts delivers an all-new story, all-new characters, an all-new Call of Duty world, all powered by a next generation Call of Duty engine, which is a leap forward for the franchise. Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of Call of Duty worthy of the world’s greatest fans.

Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin:

Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels. We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and “next generation platforms”, meaning you’ll also see the game on PS4, as we’d expect. But the tradition of Xbox consoles getting DLC first will continue, it seems.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will released November 11th for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

There’s a new Spike TV special called Battlefield 3: Operation Gridiron that puts real NFL stars into a simulated combat scenario that’s taken directly from Battlefield 3.

In partnership with GTTV, Electronic Arts recruited New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, and Minnesota Vikings defensive end/cullinary expert Jared Allen to simulate in real life a scenario in Battlefield 3 under guidance of a real spec ops team.

It’s all part of EA’s massive Battlefield 3 advertising machine, and it’s getting all the more glaring as October 25th draws nigh.

EA’s released a live action trailer for upcoming action/rpg title Mass Effect 3, one that goes bold on action, and hard on earth. It’s a must buy, I reckon; destined to win some GoTY awards next year. You’ve got to see this.

We’ve been living in “peace” for quite some time here on earth. We’ve heard talk of the end of days – it was supposed to happen last month. We’ve heard of aliens invading, but nothing too out of the ordinary has occured…..until now.

A good game on its on hardly sell units, but a good game mixed with some awesome advertising could net developers and publishers alike winsome cash. EA and Crytek had big plans for Crysis 2, with Cevat Yerli mentioning he’d love to see it sell COD-like amounts, and although we don’t know if said fit was accomplished, the advertising style below the break is surely clever.
