Destiny Taken Offline For Maintenance

Destiny has been taken offline by Bungie for some maintenance, as the developer gets ready to send the beta live on Xbox One and Xbox 360 tomorrow.

Bungie confirmed the downtime through a tweet: “We are beginning the process of taking the Destiny Beta offline for maintenance. It shall return on 7/23 for all registered testers.”

Each Destiny Beta Code Includes Three Keys

Bungie’s taking things up a notch, folks. When you preorder Destiny on either PS4, PS3, Xbox One or Xbox 360, you’ll receive a beta code — but that’s the obvious part. What you didn’t know is that Bungie gives two extra keys so you could invite your friends to the beta. Smart move, I reckon.

“Platform selection for the Beta is now available! Each code will grant you 3 download keys, enough to field a full Fireteam on the console of your choosing!” Bungie wrote. The codes are now accessible on Bungie.net.

The Beta begins on July 17th on PlayStation platforms, and two weeks later on Xbox platforms. It ends on July 28th for all platforms. The game itself sees a worldwide launch on September 9th, 2014 on the listed platforms.

Bungie’s Hoping For A Hiccup-Free Destiny Launch

Bungie is mindful of the disastrous launches certain high profile games have fell victim to, namely EA’s Battlefield 4 and Sim City 3, however the developer is cautiously confident that Destiny, its next big game, will see a smooth launch.

So says Bungie COO Pete Parsons in an interview with GI.biz, who also revealed that they’ve been testing the game for months, and that an alpha of “family and friends” went live eight weeks before the PS4 beta was announced at E3 2014.

“We have been actively preparing. It’s always scary and exciting and to put your work out in front of people who are judging it but it’s also scary to put it out there because you’re testing whether it’s going to work or not.

“They’ve really learned a lot over the last year, so we take it super seriously and we’ve been planning for a long time. We’ve been investing to make sure that we have the best experience possible. We will ultimately see what happens but we have every expectation of from moment one having a great experience.”

Destiny hits consoles on September 9th, including PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. The game will also introduce white PS4s in the U.S. via a Destiny/PS4 bundle, and comes ready with exclusive PS4 content that’s rumored to remain solely on Sony’s consoles for over a year.

Activision has revealed that the content in Destiny that’s now exclusive to PlayStation 4 will remain that way until fall of 2015, which means it’ll be well over a year until Xbox One gamers can enjoy said content. Bungie’s Destiny Capped At 1080p and 30fps Because Of Last Gen Consoles

Destiny, the highly-anticipated effort from Bungie will be locked at 30fps, although PS4 could probably go up to 60fps, because of last-gen consoles limits, Bungie has made known in a recent talk with Venture Beat.

When asked why the game was capped when next-gen consoles could push the boundaries even further, Jason Sussman who is the senior environment artist at Bungie said, “it’s a lot of different things”.

“I could get really technical, but I’d bore you to death. A lot has to do with performance. We’re cross-platform, so we had to be very delicate with all four consoles, making sure they have the same experience, that it looks as good as it possibly can on all these consoles. A lot goes into that, from geometry to textures to post effects to particles to how many players you get on the screen. We’re always balancing that out to make sure everyone gets the same experience,” he added.

Destiny is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 9th, 2014. I had a taste of the game through the PS4 exclusive alpha, and I’ve concluded that it’s a day one purchase for me, and a title that I’ll be playing for a very long time. I’m really excited for Destiny.

PS4 Game Preloading Starts With Destiny

One of the PS4′s lauded features when the console was announced is the ability to preload preordered games onto the console a few days before release, and said feature will debut with Bungie’s Destiny, Sony has revealed.

Bungie’s persistent-world FPS is due on 9th September, but PSN pre-orders for it on PS4 have already begun. Those who reserve it ahead of time will be able to download the content a few days prior to release, so the second the clock strikes midnight on 9th September you can hop in and play.

You can even set your PS4 to automatically download the pre-ordered title as the release date encroaches. Simply go to the Settings menu, select System, then make sure Automatic Downloads and Uploads is enabled. This feature requires the system software 1.70 update.

Another good reason to pre-order Destiny is to gain early beta access, due this July on PS4 and PS3. To sign up for this players must register at Bungie.net and link their account to their PSN ID.

Destiny’s Beta Commences In July

For me, day will become night and night night.

Yes indeed, now that we know Bungie’s epic will see its beta in July, there will be some long days for gamers around the world, including me, as we’ll spend untold hours ~~playing~~ testing what’s sure to be one of the year’s most epic adventures.

Activision, speaking in its recent earnings call, said that it’ll set aside $500 million for Destiny, a franchise company CEO Bobby Kotick said will become the publisher’s next billion dollar product.

Destiny goes on Sale in September on PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. To get into the beta, you’ll have to preorder the title.

Longtime Bungie Composer Terminated “Without Cause”

The guy who created all the great music for Halo, has been terminated by Bungie.

Revealed on twitter by the man himself, Martin O’Donnell declared that he was terminated “without a cause”, and that he was “saddened” by the situation.

Bungie’s since responded, praising O’Donnell in a new post on its website, stating that he’s sure to find success wherever he ventures.

For more than a decade, Marty O’Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future.

We wish him luck in all his future endeavors.
