PlayStation Network Goes Offline For Maintenance On Tuesday

by Ernice Gilbert on May 27th, 2011, under Hot, News, PS3, PSN, Sony

Seems as if we’re down to the wire where PSN’s concerned, as Sony’s said it’ll take down the service as it undergoes maintenance in preparation for the PS Store’s inevitable return.

PS3 Cross-Game Chat Tomorrow?

by Ernice Gilbert on May 24th, 2011, under Hot, Rumor, Sony

Ever since the PS3 launched back in 2006, the online feature gamers have been most adamant about is cross-game chat. Have they received it? No. But we’re now in 2011 and just recently the PlayStation Network was breached, resulting in one of the internet’s biggest security lapses. For three weeks the network remained “under maintenance” while Sony sorted the service. Periodically the firm would update the PS Blogs with valuable information concerning the hack and what steps gamers should take, but it was Kaz Hirai, PlayStation boss who, at a press conference in Japan, spoke of the “welcome back” package they were planning.

We know said package includes free games, 30 days free PS Plus amongst other things. But while PSN-gate was yet hot, a Sony rep let loose some rather juicy information concerning new features that might come available once PSN was back up. Things like cross-game chat and in-game video chat, and even a XMB revamp. The service has since then seen triumphant return, but today PSN is once again “undergoing maintenace”. Could this temporary shut down be related to the new features?

The PlayStation Store Won’t Go Live Today, PSN Maintenance Scheduled

by Ernice Gilbert on May 24th, 2011, under Hot, News, PS3, Sony

Last week it was rumored that Sony had sent out a message to developers informing them the PlayStation Store would reopen today, however the rumor was false, as the firm’s confirmed there’ll be no store reopening today, even as the network on a whole undergoes maintenance.

PSN Won’t Be Fully Restored Until May 31st, Online Gameplay By This Week

by Ernice Gilbert on May 9th, 2011, under Hot, News, PSN, Sony

Today marks the 19th day since PSN went offline, and speaking to Bloomberg, the company’s said full restoration of the service won’t happen until May 31st. Partial online gaming will happen, however, and although that was supposed to common last week, problems with Sony Online Entertainment caused the firm to delay PSN’s return. But like we said in this post, expect to at least be able to play games online early this week.

Sony, PSN Needs To Come Back Hard, Better Than Ever

by Ernice Gilbert on April 27th, 2011, under Article, Hot, PSN, Sony

It’s happened, damn it. PSN’s been hacked, and the gaming world is in a meltdown. Things will never be the same – trust has been totally lost and lawsuits are already flinging from all corners. PSN. It houses all our sensitive information, but no longer is the network the only home to that information. It’s now in the hands of one or more persons getting ready to go on a nasty fraud rampage that might result in the destruction of livelihoods all over the world. Yes. Over 75 million were affected, and tonight, even as I prepare this article, someone could be losing thousands of dollars through some scam thanks to Sony and the hackers who breached their network.

PSN isn’t doom. But in order for Sony to even begin regaining the trust it lost in less than 24hrs, when PSN comes back up, it must be like nothing we’ve ever seen or experienced in the past. Do that, Sony, and you stand a chance of coming back harder, stronger and more solid than ever. Don’t, and you’ll fail.

Sony Talks Cross Game Chat, Says Nothing Convincing

by Ernice Gilbert on September 13th, 2010, under Hot, News, Sony

If there’s one feature PS3 gamers would love to see come available on their shiny black console’s online service, it’s cross-game-chat. Earlier this year, the internet went crazy when we broke rumor concerning Sony’s intention when it finally decides to add the feature to PSN.

Gamers across the world were furious, flinging cuss words at Sony, barking things like “they’re becoming more like MS,” and what not.

Well, the giant’s mentioned the three words again, but this time, not much substance.

Microsot Killed “Secret” Cross Gaming Project Between PC And Xbox 360

by Ernice Gilbert on July 24th, 2010, under Hot, Microsoft, News, PC, Xbox 360

My my, what do we have here. Rahul Sood, founder of Voodoo PC and now CTO of Hewlett Packard’s gaming business, has wrote some rather revealing and interesting things on his blog. According to the exec, Microsoft killed a secret project which would’ve allowed console and PC players “to interact and battle over a connected environment”.

The reason being testing showed PC players “destroy” the console player “every time”.

Lord have mercy.
