According to the filing, Bethesda Softworks registered a trademark for ‘Fallout 4′ last Thursday, around the same time thesurvivor2299.com surfaced online.

The website includes a countdown clock that ends of Wednesday December 11th, and a message in Morse Code.

Bethesda hasn’t acknowledged the website or even the trademark, but some digging reveals that the trademark belongs to Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media.

The last Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas, was released in October, 2010.

“The time for convincing publishers and developers to support Wii U has long past.”

Bethesda’s Pete Hines says it’s too late to convince Bethesda, or anyone in general, to support the Wii U from this point on. On the latest episode of Gametrailers’ Bonus Round, Bethesda marketing chief Pete Hines said Nintendo only has itself to look at if it wants to see the reason why the console has little third-party support.

“The time for convincing publishers and developers to support Wii U has long past.

The box is out. You have to do what Sony and Microsoft have been doing with us for a long time. It’s not that every time we met with them we got all the answers that we wanted, but they involved us very early on, talking to folks like Bethesda and Gearbox, saying, ‘Here’s what we’re doing, here’s what we’re planning, here’s how we think it’s going to work,’ to hear what we thought, from our tech guys, and from an experience standpoint.

You have to spend an unbelievable amount of time upfront doing that. If you’re going to sort of decide ‘Well, we’re going to make a box and this is how it’s going to work, and you should make games for it,’ – well, no! No is my answer!

I’m going to focus on other ones that better support what it is we’re trying to do. You’ve got to spend more time trying to reach out to those folks before you even make the box when you’re still designing it and thinking about how it’s going to work.”

While Sony and Microsoft consulted the game industry’s titans when they started working on their next-gen consoles, Nintendo just launched the console anyway in 2012.

Hines, however, is not changing his mind any time soon.

“Honestly, it’s not something I spend a lot of time thinking about. Pick the consoles that have the games you want to play. You shouldn’t have ever bought a Wii U expecting to play great Bethesda games on there because that’s not something we’d ever supported in the past. We’ll see how that changes down the road – if it does.

It’s more about the hardware and the audience and supporting yet another platform, and does it do everything the way the others do? If not then usually it just doesn’t make a lot of sense to spend that much time and attention on something that doesn’t fit what you’re doing.”

Our take: While Nintendo could use some third party support, it’s not the next Call of Duty or Battlefield that will sell the console, but the next Zelda and Mario. As long as third-party support means exclusives like The Wonderful 101, Nintendo is on a good path.

John Carmack, the co-founder of id Software, has officially joined the Oculus Rift team as its new Chief Technology Officer. Carmack has been an integral part of the Oculus Rift technology since early into production, and has been a pioneer of VR hardware in general for a long time. He was the first developer to integrate the Oculus Rift into a game.

The Oculus Rift team will greet Carmack at its new Dallas offices. A spokesperson for Bethesda has told Gamasutra:

“John has long been interested in the work at Oculus VR and wishes to spend time on that project. The technical leadership he provides for games in development at id Software is unaffected.”

Meanwhile, an Oculus spokesperson has told Gamasutra, “He’s full time at Oculus VR.”

Carmack then posted on his Twitter account:

My time division is now Oculus over Id over Armadillo. Busy busy busy!

— John Carmack (@ID_AA_Carmack) August 7, 2013

“It’s largely a hardware thing. We make the games that we want to make, on whatever platforms will support them as developed.

None of the games we’ve announced are being developed for the Wii U, so it’s guaranteed that none of those games are coming to Wii U.”

Bethesda is publishing Wolfenstein: The New Order, Shinji Mikami’s new survival horror The Evil Within and PC/next-gen role-playing MMOThe Elder Scrolls Online.

Taking The Elder Scrolls as an example, Hines said it “likely would have” been launched on current-gen platforms, but “it just wasn’t possible” due to the game’s size and scope.

“Will any future ones come out? I can’t say for sure. In our near-term focus it’s not on our radar.”

Bethesda’s yet again reminded PS3 gamers that Skyrim DLC that’s been released on Xbox 360 ages ago, will still see a release on the dark side. Yes, that black, matte PS3 of yours will one day play host to Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn. But do you care?

It was the firm’s VP Pete Hines who tweeted the reassurance: “Yes. We continue to work on it,” he said in response to a fan’s inquiry.

“And content will be coming to PS3. Will give details when I have them.”

Hines admitted that he understood the frustrations of PS3 gamers, but later added there’s nothing more he could say on the situation except, “Don’t know when that will be. Still working on it.”

The question still remains, though, do you even care?

The latest piece of DLC, ‘Dragonborn’, is set to be released on Xbox 360 on December 4th.

Arkane Studios’ creation, Dishonored, will be getting three add-on packs, the first of which will be released this December, and the rest will follow in 2013.

The Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials DLC will cost £3.99/€4.99/$4.99/400 MS points and will add 10 challenge maps to the game, designed to test players’ combat, stealth and mobility skills. Said trials will vary in form; you will have to fight off waves of attackers and on the next map you might have to race against the clock. New trophies/achievements and online leaderboards will also be added.

Next, we have a story add-on pack, details for which we’ll have later this year. The pack is targeted for next Spring and will focus on Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural assassins called The Whalers. It’ll add new locations within Dunwall, as well as powers, weapons and gadgets that you’ll be able to liberate from Daud’s clutches.

Lastly, we have the third add-on pack, which we know nothing of.
