YouTube To Buy Twitch For $1 Billion

Twitch, the popular videogame streaming service that’s seen exponential growth over the years, and accelerated value since PS4 and Xbox One integrated the tech into their new consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, is now finalizing a deal with YouTube parent company Google for an acquisition deal worth about $1 billion, sources close to both Google and Twitch have told Variety, a report that’s since been verified by various other people.

According to The Verge, Microsoft was also pitching to Twitch but the company turned Redmond down because it didn’t think Microsoft was the best fit.

Twitch was launched in 2011 by the founders of Justin.tv, and has since become the defacto place for gamers to stream their gameplay, and has seen peak traffic that’s topped mega-sites like Facebook.

Neither Twitch nor Google have spoken on the report.
