I think the Wii U is a great machine, but NIntendo’s foresight was weak, and because of it, did not imagine a PS4 and new Xbox that’d be more powerful than Wii U, or did not think that developers would see a problem with the weaker hardware. The console also has a messaging problem, in that consumers can’t properly discern it from the Wii. You’re right, if there’s new hardware, it needs to be backward compatible and boast other unique and great features, not just being more powerful than PS4 and Xbox One. If Nintendo can nail all these things, we may be in for a treat.

I bought a WiiU last Christmas, partly because it had/will have some great games in its library, and also partly to just help out the Big N. If they release a console just to match the hardware of the PS4/XboxOne in 2015, I will definitely NOT invest in it. The WiiU has enough potential as it is, Nintendo just needs to market it better and make games that people won’t brush off as being meant only for “little kids”.
