It can own the thing, and still make a good use of the device just as it was intended, the same way that Coca Cola can buy a clothing company and still keep it a clothing brand with nothing coke-related.
But, of course, rumors said that they plan on using the thing for facebook stuff, which kinda sucks, in my opinion.

At least I’m happy that Sony offers us an alternative.
