Sony’s started sending out beta invites for PlayStation Now, so check your email address linked to your PlayStation account to see if you’ve been chosen as one of the lucky testers.Emails started going out at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time today, and include the following message:
The email says that “exclusive access to test PlayStation’s game streaming service before its full launch and the opportunity to provide your regular feedback to the PlayStation Now team.” Sony recommends a wired internet connection and “a 5Mbps or higher speed broadband connection” in order to participate. After accepting, invited users will receive a beta voucher and instructions “in the coming days.”
Sony’s hoping to launch the new service during summer in the U.S., and 2015 in Europe and the rest of the world. PlayStation Now will see PS3 games being played on PS4, Bravia TVs and in the future, partner Smartphone and Tablet devices, with games being streamed via the cloud. Eventually PS1 and PS2 classics will be available on the service. But the real goal here is to move away from hardware and turn the gaming experience into a Netflix-type service.
