A noble act that kicked off pretty well.
Famous MMO RuneScape developer, Jagex, has launched an in-game event that will span all of November, allowing players to donate in-game gold and convert it into real-life money for charities.
The Well of Goodwill will accept items, gold and bonds, with Jagex giving $1 for every 10 million gold pieces donated in the month-long run.
Sounds as a bad analogy? Well, so far, and using Jage’s real-time tracker, 115,484,876,059 gold pieces have been donated, which amounts to more than $11,000. Sounds good now, doesn’t it?
“With the Well of Goodwill, we believe we have created a perfect system to allow our players to support worthy charities through their in-game efforts without affecting their own real-world pockets,” as Jagex COO Riaan Hodgson said.
The charity event will also double as a fix for the game’s economy, as stated in the community FAQ:
“A second benefit of adding the Well of Goodwill is that it will also act as a massive gold sink for the game: something we promised with the launch of Bonds that’s still needed, which will have a huge impact on improving the game’s economy.”
Are you playing RuneScape? If you do, be sure to donate some gold! We’re hoping that with this post, more people will be aware and possibly help this good move.
