Grand Theft Auto 5 the bestselling game for September in U.S., and Wii U sees a 200 percent increase in sales after price cut.
But it was Sony’s PS3 outpacing Xbox 360 in sales after lagging behind for 32 months, that’s the real story here, a feat that was seemingly impossible being that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has had such a strong grip on the U.S. market. Could this be a sign of things to come? After all, PS4′s been a way hotter item that Xbox One all over the world — including the U.S.
We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
Software sales were dominated by GTA 5, recording the highest opening for a Grand Theft Auto title, the biggest September sales, and representing over 50 percent of total dollars spent for the month.
Microsoft also said that GTA 5 helped Xbox 360 achieve its biggest software sales, reaching $401.2 million — the most for any console in the US.
No figures for Xbox 360 was made available, but with knowledge that the console has sold 1.6 million units in the U.S. for the year, September numbers may have been around the 170,000 mark. PS3 may have sold over 200,000 for the month, helped of course by the GTA V PS3 bundle.
Total industry sales rose 27 percent to $1.079 billion.
