I’m 31, which means I’ve been around from since the days when Atari had consoles (Atari Jaguar anyone? With Cybermoth and Iron Soldier!), when Nintendo ruled the day with the original Gameboy and Sega’s Game Gear was a pretty handheld with its best feature being its battery-eating skills.
Then the NES came along! And oh my, what a console it was! Still is! But by the time Nintendo launched the SNES, Sony came along with the original PlayStation. You know the story: Sony went on to dominate the living room for the better part of two decades, spanning PSone and PS2, until staunch competition came along in the form of Xbox 360 an d Wii.
Now we have PS4 and Xbox One, and there’s no better time to be a gamer because now more than ever, these companies, Sony, Microsoft and others, are working hard to bring the best experiences to their respective platforms in hopes to win us over, or better yet win our dollars.
And then there’s the mobile and PC space — both of which have expanded in major ways, making it all the more clear that no company can stay in a comfort zone for too long, because they risk being overtaken by the competition.
So yes, I say boldly that there’s never been a better time to be a gamer! Doesn’t matter your platform of choice, or the one (s) you’re contemplating, gaming, in the eighth generation, is sure to bring some great experiences!
So sit tight, then. PS4 launches on November 15th in the U.S. and on the 29th of the same month in Europe. Xbox One launches on November 22nd in the U.S. and certain parts of Europe. Valve’s Steam Box will be released next year and Amazon is planning to stun the world with its own games console/setup box come year end.
So smile, because that’s what we should all be doing as gamers. Because when the day is over, whether from work or school, we’ll come home — or be on the go — to some of the best gaming experiences ever imagined.
Have a great weekend, friends. And share with us what you’re up to!
