Valve has three announcements for Monday

They can count to three, apparently.

Gabe Newell’s Valve is teasing three announcements to come on Monday, about “the steps we’re taking to make Steam more accessible on televisions and in the living room.” On a Valve-owned teaser site that went up today, Valve said “the Steam universe is expanding in 2014.””

“Last year, we shipped a software feature called Big Picture, a user-interface tailored for televisions and gamepads,” the site says. “This year we’ve been working on even more ways to connect the dots for customers who want Steam in the living-room. Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.”

Then, they went on to say “we have three announcements to make beginning with the first one on Monday morning.”

Our take: If this does not scream Steam Box, and maybe Half-Life 3 to make it more appealing to players from both sides (PC and consoles — Steam Box should be controller based), I don’t know what does. Let’s just wait and see before we OH CRAP 3 ANNOUNCEMENTS HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!

I was thinking the same thing. A gaming pc which is priced to compete with consoles and share similar features and Halflife 3 as a debut title. That would put them in a good position for next gen. Maybe it’s too optimistic. Third announcement: Gabe Newells unveils a new mathematical system where the number three is replaced by the dollar sign.

Indeed, if they want the Steam Box to succeed, they have to reach non-PC players, since Steam is PC-based. What better way to get them to buy your box if not one of the most hyped games ever?
