i will have to see what this amazing potential is, since kinect is no longer mandatory the xbox one is looking better in my eyes. i wish that microsoft would just dump the kinect for once and for all instead of spending so much effort trying to shove it down our throats though, i think that the people have spoken, almost no one (outside of fanboys) are excited for kinect, almost no one is looking for "new things" like voice control (didn't they do that in previous games already?) or jumping all over the place in order to play a game (if i'm going to be jumping around why not play a game like volleyball or soccer? why use a video game to force it on me?). i mean really, is anyone thinking "boy the next halo will be so much better with some pointless kinect feature forced into it."? sort of like how killzone 2 was so much better with pointless sixaxis controls forced into it (because turning my controller as if it was a valve is so much better than using thumbsticks), at least killzone 3's "move" controls were optional. Even on the wii i was much happier playing mario kart with a gamecube controller or classic controller than the wii mote, and even on the new mario bros i don't see how any of the motion control parts couldn't have been done with buttons (shaking your wii mote so that your bubble floats closer to a team mate? fun.. oh so much fun).

my point is that motion controls are good in small doses (think flower or journey) but when they are being forced into games that do not pander to casual audiences they just are bad, and all three console makers are guilty of this, i guess nintendo gets most of the blame for starting the whole trend and microsoft gets a substantial amount for investing so much into something that almost no one wants. and sony gets blame for following along like a lost puppy instead of holding the course.

it makes me think of the keypads in the controllers of the consoles before the crash in the early 80's. the big ones had them (atari 5200, intellivision, colecovision) but no one knew why and no gamer actually wanted them, maybe that's just hindsight though.
