EA and F.C. Barcelona have agreed on a three-year partnership to make EA Sports the club’s exclusive and official video game partner.
In the words of Matt Bilbey, senior vice president and Group general manager over at EA Sports:
“Joining a world class football club like Barcelona as an Official Club Partner is a fantastic opportunity for EA Sports and our fans. We will create a deeper connection with their passionate, global fan base, and use our games as a platform to engage supporters all around the world for years to come.”
This partnership means that EA Sports had the ability to secure 3D head scans of 17 of Barcelona’s stars, like FIFA cover star Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Dani Alves, Andres Iniesta, Xavi, and more. Those scans will provide ultra-detailed faces for the players in the upcoming football game. Moreover, Camp Nou, Barcelona’s home stadium, will be a featured stadium in the game.
Lionel Messi will become the core figure in global marketing, advertising and social media activities for the FIFA franchise, along with his team. Barcelona will also host an exclusive video game tournament this year to see who’s the best FIFA 14 player from inside the team.
This addition ramps up the number of clubs partnered with EA Sports to 8, the other seven being Valencia from Spain’s La Liga, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City from Barclays Premier League in England, Borussia Dortmund from the German Bundesliga, Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain F.C. from Ligue 1 in France, and AC Milan in Italy’s Serie A.
Don’t forget, FIFA 14 is set to launch on September 27 for current generation platforms, and will released on PS4 and Xbox One later in the year.
