In light of Microsoft’s big policy reversal which now allows indie developers to self-publish their games on Xbox One, Polygon inquired what it actually costs for developers to get their hands on a PS4 dev kits.
The website found out that it was $2,500, however according to one anonymous indie dev, that’s not a problem, because Sony has actually been going out of its way to give them all kinds of support including loans to get them started – and as for the dev kits, the electronics giant has apparently been giving them away like sweets.
“All the indies I know got them for free. Sony has been amazing about kits and development thus far,” one anonymous commenter said.
“They are handing them out like candy,” another added.
There’s a catch to the “Xbox One” can work as dev kits talk, apparently. According to Polygon sources, indie developers would still have to pay a fee of $500 to get their games on Microsoft’s new console.
