You Won’t Be Able To Start Games On The Next Xbox Without Internet Connection

Sources close to Kotaku who’s been working hard to bring games on the next Xbox, have said that the new console will not play games if an internet connection is not found, and if you are already connected but for some reason your connection is lost, after three minutes, the machine will go into troubleshooting mode.

“If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time–currently three minutes, if I remember correctly–the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started,” said one of the site’s sources. These people added that as of two weeks ago, this was how things stood  and, most likely, still stand.

Some sources said that they believed that the Durango development kit required an online connection so that Microsoft could keep tabs on them and update them with new, ever-evolving firmware. Others weren’t sure.

So far, three major gaming websites have confirmed with their own sources that the always-connected Xbox isn’t just smoke, but is actually real. From IGN to Edge  and Kotaku.

The big question everyone’s asking is, why would Microsoft do this?

EA’s CEO quit his job to join Microsoft, only plausible explanation I got.

He must have. LOL. Seriously, though. I hope MS does not move forward with such a strategy. It would be a detrimental move on their behalf. No console in history has ever blocked gamers from playing because of the lack of internet.

It’d be a first, and hopefully a last. I really hope that console does not sell well because of that, because otherwise, other consoles will probably start doing it, and that would be awful!

Same thing happened with “VIP Access”, like you have to buy your game new to access the multiplayer part of the game.
