Bioshock Infinite Costs $200 Million

Bioshock Infinite Costs $200 Million

$100 million on development, $100 million on marketing.

It has been revealed that Bioshock Infinite will cost 2k Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two, $200 million, with $100 being spent on development and an anticipated $100 million on advertising, The New York Times has been told.

That’s pretty expensive if you ask me. We know games like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty development costs are about $200 million when it’s all tallied up, but Bioshock Infinite costing that much is a big risk on 2k’s part. Here’s to hoping at least 10 million units are sold.

Can it happen? Let’s see: the original Bioshock sold 2.5 million units on Xbox 360. On PS3, after being released over a year later, the game sold 1 million units. The second game sold 2 million on Xbox 360 and 1 million on PS3. PC sales were minimal.

So then, will Bioshock Infinite, now with the advantage of bigger PS3 and Xbox 360 install bases be able to sell 7 million more units than historically achievable? The preorder numbers are looking good, so it just might be able to do 10 million overtime.

For the industry’s sake, we sure hope so.

Thanks, D’toid.
