Naughty Is As Efficient As They’ll Ever Be On PS3

Naughty Dog maxed out the PS3 with Uncharted 2, however they were able to pull out more efficiency from the console with Uncharted 3. With The Last of Us, Naughty Dog is as efficient as they’ll ever be with PS3, says the game’s lead designer Jacob Minkoff. He also spoke about the prospects of PS4.

In was in an interview with Gamezone that Minkoff shared his thoughts, adding that no one’s ever really ready for new consoles, as it’s always a process of starting all over.

He said:

Hardware cycles are always really interesting because at the beginning of a hardware cycle, you don’t really know how to use the hardware yet. I think Uncharted 1 used maybe 30 percent efficiency. Uncharted 2 we were finally using 100 percent, but it wasn’t as efficient as it could be. Then, Uncharted 3 we got way more efficient.

For us, it’s nice to really have mastered the PS3 at this point and be able to push things where we haven’t been able to push before. It’s only because we learned the PS3 so well that we can finally push graphics that are this complex.

I don’t think anyone’s really ready for a new system. There’s excitement, right. Whenever a new console comes out, if it comes out, you’re like ‘Ok, cool, more power,’ but we gotta learn this now. Whereas the beast you know, you get used to it. You get how it’s going to work.

So, new hardware, old hardware. It’s just part of the cycle of life. So each stage is fun.

Well if there’s one developer we’d like to see take on new hardware it’d be Naughty Dog.

The Last Of Us sees a release May 7th exclusively on PS3.

you made the same comment with uncharted 3!
fact of the matter is your never “code perfect” on a project, theres always something you could of done better, or something you wanted to implement but dident get a chance to.
as the saying goes a good tradesmen never blames his tools.
