Update: The guy who acts out FPS Russia wasn’t the one who was shot, but rather the Channel Owner and show producer, Keith Ratliff.
Original Story: I’m sure many of you are familiar with popular YouTube personality FPSRussia, even if it’s only recently, after making the Black Ops 2 video that introduced Quadrotor, a prototype unarmed weapon used in Treyarch’s game. He has been shot dead in the head by what officials are deeming an apparent homicide.
Police in northeast Georgia found Keith Ratliff, 32, dead at his office on Jan. 3, shot once in the head. He was surrounded by several guns, but not the one that killed him. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is treating it as a homicide.
“We are interviewing people of interest, but we have not named a suspect,” said the Franklin County sheriff, Stevie Thomas. “We are not ruling out any options.”
This, as the United States struggle to deal with gun control in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting, where 26 people were shot dead, 20 of them being children.
Mr. Ratliff’s wife, Amanda, opened up to a television channel in Lexington, Ky., where he used to live:
For him not to pull out that gun and try to defend himself, he had to feel comfortable around somebody. Either that or he was ambushed.
A sad day today, as I too was a huge fan of FPSRussia. It’s YouTube’s ninth largest channel, with nearly 3.5 million subscribers and more than 500 million views.
Mr. Ratliff recently moved from Kentucky to Carnesville, a city of 540 people that is 80 miles from Atlanta. He opened a business that made and repaired firearms, and was licensed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the authorities said.
Suffice to say, we’ve lost yet another very creative person because of gun violence.
Thanks, New York Times.
