Valve Will Announce The Steam Box Powered By Linux At GDC, Or E3

We said in our New Years piece that 2013 will be the most exciting year for gaming. It’ll also be the most disruptive, as Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, otherwise known as the ‘big three’, will finally see some competition. First big fight: Valve’s Steam Box.

That’s according to German tech site Golem.de, present at the EHSM 2012 conference in Berlin last month, where Valve engineer Ben Krasnow was speaking. Krasnow is reported to have confirmed Linux as the operating system for the Steam Box. The report also says to expect a full reveal at either GDC in March or at E3 in June.

Valve boss Gable Newell confirmed to Kotaku that indeed, a new console from Valve was in the works, so this news comes as no surprise.
