Quenchables: Telltale’s Walking Dead Wins Game Of The Year

If you missed it, the game that won the most sought after award last night at the VGAs, wasn’t a mega-bucks title like Assassin’s Creed 3, Halo 4 or some other blockbuster, it was actually Telltale’s The Walking Dead. As if I needed any reminders that I should fully get into the game.

Games Thirst user Foxton has constantly made the case for why I should play Telltale’s epic, forcing me to get it – but I haven’t delved into the title.

This weekend, then? Anyway, congrats, etc.

another screw up at VGA’s. you can’t even call this a game. all you do is press a button and the actions play out in cut scene form. this is more of a interactive comic. sorry but actual games deserve to win GOTY.

you don’t just press buttons in heavy rain dude, you can control your characters too. walking you cant do that at all. therefore its not a game. an another thing walking dead wasn’t even a full game you had to buy it in parts.

@narwall a game shouldn’t win GOTY just because it doesn’t fit in certain genre. thats what you call a cop-out. im sorry but to say the walking dead had more, gameplay, more content, better story, and in a overall package better than AC3, Dishonored, ME3? thats straight bull. sad thing is we’ll never know who actually would’ve won since people can’t actually vote. they can choose their picks to win as a way to interact with the site but the nominees and winners are picked by a council of gaming journalists. which is also bull, people haven’t been able to vote for like 3-4 years

Ha ha haaa! This has put a smile on my face after a tough weekend. Finally people on this site might start to listen to what I have been saying.
Totally totally deserved, this game is Epic, absolutely epic. I defy anyone not to be touched and get a raw feeling of emotion when playing this game.
@Ghost of course it’s a game, admittedly it’s a different type of game, but just because its not your standard format doesn’t make it any less of a game does it? Your arguments as to why this shouldn’t be GOTY are completely flawed. You do control the characters, you control them by making decision and telling them what to do which affect the way the story pans out, just because you don’t make him run and jump everywhere does not mean you do not control them. And it was full game! Just because it was released in parts, how does that not make it a full game? If anything it makes the game even stronger as the way you are left with a cliff hanger after each episode makes the gamer scream for more, the fact that it was originally released in parts was an amazing idea and I guarantee more games will follow this routine. And btw its out to buy on disc now so even if you thought it wasn’t a full game before it definitely is now! This game is totally unique, it is so powerful it is unbelievable, the graphics and controls are so simple it actually makes this game so good. This game is all about the storyline, the characters, the feelings and emotions and they got everything spot on. The script writing for this is epic and due to all this it is why they decided to give it GOTY.
Seriously if you play this game then you will realise why it was awarded GOTY, ghost you need to get your head out your ass and think outside the box, this game has pushed boundaries and I guarantee that because of its success we will see many more games following this path, and that is why it won game of the year.
Seriously before anyone doubts why this has won, just play the game and then you will realise. Its all about the script, the storyline, the emotion and the journey it takes you on. There really is no other game quite like it
And Nick, yes it is better than all of those games.

MGS4, RDR, SoTC and they offer way more as a full package.

whatever ghost, just google walking dead game of the year and see what comes up, literally hundreds upon hundreds of articles saying how good the game is. i didnt say it should win because its a diffeent genre, i said its different and pushes boundaries, its not your usual, jumop run shoot game and that is what helped it to win GOTY. yes sports games are imersive. im not asking you to take my advice at all. put why dont you take adive from the hundreeds of experts that agree with the fact that this is an immense game. playing it on a mates xbox is different, play it on your own with the lights down and get into the game. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but just because you dont like it doesnt mean that the whole gaming industry is wrong or its a cop out. You do control the carachters, just not in the normal way.

btw i’ve been playing games all my life so i think im just as much as a professional as anyone who plays games hardcore. just because i don’t own a site or write articles doesn’t make them anymore right than me or anyone else who thinks the walking dead didn’t deserve GOTY. but i guess by your logic since your not a gaming journalist then that invalidate everything say about walking dead deserving GOTY does it not? word of advice if you make point make sure it doesn’t go both ways then maybe your argument would actually have ground to stand on.
