Are you one of those who picked the infamous Pendant as a starting gift in Dark Souls? The game’s director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, once said that he’d choose the Pendant or nothing at all — and this was enough to drive people crazy about its cryptic nature.
But, in an interview with IGN, Miyazaki explained what its purpose is: to have fun with the players. Yes. He just trolled millions of people. One can also say he fed them false hopes, leading them through the difficult journey and having them believe the Pendant actually helps them at times, while in reality, it’s just there… to be there.
In Miyazaki’s words: “When it comes to the pendant, I actually had a little bit of an intention to play a prank.”
So, yes, that counts as an epic victory for mister Miyazaki. I wasn’t one of those who picked the Pendant over the others, but I was curious about what it actually does, and as a frequent visitor and poster on the PrepareToDie.com forums, I can almost hear the outrageous cries of agonized people cursing Miyazaki. Well played, sir.
