Joe Madureira, Darksiders Creative Director And Studio Co-founder, Leaves Vigil

The mastermind behind Darksiders and Darksiders II has left the studio he help found, leaving behind a team that will need to seek new avenues of inspiration.

Joe Madureira leaves Vigil Games today, stating that he couldn’t be more proud of the legacy helped forge at the company.

Said Madureira in a Facebook post:

Farewell and best wishes to allhttp://www.gamesthirst.com/wp-admin/post-new.php my brothers and sisters at Vigil Games! After 7 long years and 2 hit games, I’m afraid the time has come for me to move on to new adventures. I could not be more proud of what we achieved, or the awesome people who helped build up this studio. I can safely say Vigil’s future is in very good hands, so expect only awesomeness down the road. This feels surreal…I miss the place already.

We wish Mr. Madureira all the best with his future endeavors.

    its not looking good for THQ they just closed a the Australian subsidiary of the company. now one of the co-founders of vigil is leaving. i can sense he knows that THQ is gonna be done for good.

    2004 – WWE Day Of Reckoning. that is the last THQ game that i can say i actually enjoyed. i remember me, my brother and cousin would play the crap out of that game on the gamecube. I’m talking about countless summers of playing it, getting out from school and playing it together, spending holidays playing it. its just too bad that THQ is actually worthy of the nickname “Truly Horrible Quality” because that exactly what all their games are to me imo.

    I’m starting to feel like small gaming companies are going to lose the ability to make good games and will lose their place in making games and monopolies of developers will start to form. Imagine the day where there is only one console, one developer and one crappy franchise. *shudder*

    sad to see him go.
    scary how many people are upping and leaving this year its almost a article a day were hearing of someone moving on.
    makes you wonder why.
    i really hope THQ get behind vergil and give them the budget they need to do darksiders 3.
    but this time its a direct sequel to the original, you play as war, and it is exactly the same as the original.
    a dungeon crawler puzzle focused RPG.
    darksiders 2 is good, but it lose everything that made the original so special.
    the slow heavy combat was its charm, so many games are fast action paced the slow heavy combat made it unique.
    the puzzles and level design just showed off how creative the developers are and their attention to detail.
    everything for the sequel was the complete opposite, instead of being unique and well thought out, attention to every detail, its scale for the sake of scale and everything feels dumbed down, simplified.
