Weekend Quencher 10/06/12 – I’m Tired Of The ‘Exclusive’ Rubbish

Medal Of Honor_Warfighter

This weekend I could have been enjoying Medal Of Honor: Warfighter’s beta with some of my friends who’ve been anticipating the game. Friends from around the world who’d band together and experience a new shooter with gladness. But that’s not going to happen because the majority of my friends only game on PS3; and the beta is exclusive to Xbox 360.

Thanks, EA. No really, thanks.

This may sound a bit selfish but I’m no longer interested in Warfighter. Why would EA make the beta exclusive to a particular console, not even mentioning when and if it’ll come to the other is beyond me. And anyone thinking about Battlefield 3′s PS3 beta, that was exclusive for just one week – it came to Xbox six days later.

On a more general note, this whole exclusive and timed-exclusive deals third-party publishers sign are irritating and, I believe, disrespectful to the gamer. Why would anyone on Xbox 360 play MOH: Warfighter before someone like Benzo, who’s been lauding the title ever since its announcement? The same goes the other way around. See, all this does is make one group feel like their crowd is superior to the other. It’s a failed strategy.

Also, wouldn’t it be wiser if EA had made the beta available for both consoles in tandem? Wouldn’t that have been a better marketing strategy?

Seriously, why would I even bother with Medal Of Honor: Warfighter again, when Black Ops 2, Halo, Assassin’s Creed 3 and Dishonored are around the bend? A gamer should be given incentives to buy a game, not the other way around, right? Anyway…

This Columbus day weekend will be mostly quiet for me, as I’ll forfeit fun activities to stay home and work on some Games Thirst business. So, yeah. That’s it.

What are you good folks up to? Let’s hear it!

Be blessed!

I’m not driven away by the move, not at all, my Limited Edition on the PS3 is still on its way. This move, for me, shows Microsoft is nervous. Playstation and Playstation Plus have been getting incredible stuff lately, for the price of 40€ per year, while Xbox players (like me) pay 40€ a year and get nothing of that — just get to play online. Moreover, the only 360 game I’m looking forward to until Christmas, is… Halo 4. While the PS3 has a stronger line up.

Were they securing DLC for the X360 players and gave it to them for free, this would be another story. But securing timed, and paid, DLC is nonsensical, because their competitor, Sony, is securing DLC like that of Assassin’s Creed III and giving it for free to everyone. Another point where Microsoft is losing.

With Sony picking up the pace, what we said earlier, Ernice (that the losing one always performs better), is evident now. People are beginning to wonder, why pay 40€ just to play online, while the guys on the opposite side get tons of games that justify their investment in just one month? Sony is winning, and with PS subscriptions doubling, and PS3 sales skyrocketting, Microsoft has to do something, and apart from Halo 4, all they can do is secure such little things for a few days.

At least that’s how I see it.

I can understand why it would be annoying but remember that it’s a beta and not a demo. Maybe for the tests they were doing it would have been easier to focus on one console.

I can understand exclusive incentive & DLC’s, but an Exclusive Beta is just ridiculous.
    —————-
But sadly this is the future, now that Gaming production cost is so damn High, all the developers are taking their games Multiplatform to make more money & exclusive meaningless deals (Such As This) have/will replace completely exclusive titles.
    —————-
But I’ve looked up quite alot of Beta footage on youtube, i really like what i see and just cannot wait to get my hands on it. Though they might ruin this with Server Rental’s as well, because they have a server browser in MOH:W too, just like the one in BF3, so it’s only logical to expect a Server Rental Option somewhere down the line.

We should get a Platoon going. I’m getting it on PS3 and will be playing it like Crazy.

I have a BF3 platoon, for Starblind, but since you can join multiple, we should definitely get together a Games Thirst platoon. I’ll also be on the PS3, so we can work that out ;)

    @Christos — You + PS3 = PSN ID NOW.

Haha sure, add me: Unbreakable13, I’m online now! :D

I feel you pain EG…I was very very angry that the beta is 360 only. I have gone over it a few times in my mind, and only see this one reason…EA knows that BLOPS2 is going to trounce them in sales. I’m just being real! As much as I love MoH, most dont share the same sentiment. 360 is going to be the major sales console from BLOPS2 and I think that EA wants to try and steal some sale from them. (PS3 is an afterthought to most companies….dont know why but thats what it seems like) While I am angry with EA for this move, I am still going to buy Warfighter. I am just too motivated to get my hands on the next installment of Tier 1…the REAL LIFE WARRIORS! And I’m in if a GT platoon pops off for PS3
    ______
As for the whole 3rd party timed exclusive stuff….well to borrow a term from my GT family members, ITS RUBBISH!! Just a way for companies to grab some extra cash and one-upmanship at its finest by Sony and MS.
    ______
My weekend consists of work and a surprise bday party for my mother in law…I love that lady with all my heart! Just like I love my own mom! Oh…and some Borderlands 2 with a sprinkle of Fallout New Vegas on 360.
    _____
Have a good and safe weekend all!

@benzo: Hot DAMN 9.5 out of 10? Dishounored is going to be so awesome!

  9. Christos Chatzisavvas October 6, 2012 at 5:05 pm -

Oh a platoon will definitely pop up soon! And thanks for that piece, writing now! :)

Bro, the reason they are doing it only on the Xbox i because they want to test it further on the XBox, the PS3 and PC versions run perfectly, but they want all 3 platforms to run the best they can, that’s why it’s only on Xbox XD Not getting the game just because of that is rather selfish in my opinion man.

  11. Ernice Gilbert October 7, 2012 at 12:45 pm -

@Saint – If that’s the case they should have made that clear. But I haven’t heard that said anywhere.

And yeah, I know, it’s selfish. I might get it after all. It still does not justify this “exclusive” trend. I understand first party titles. But third-party devs should be neutral.

Trust me, I have a friend who went to Danger Close and played the Beta on PC. He told me that they are doing it on the Xbox to test it out, make sure it runs good, it runs good on PS3 and PC, but they want to make sure. Research it.

  13. Ernice Gilbert October 8, 2012 at 6:29 pm -

Okay bro. I’ll trust you on this one.
