Valve’s new EULA gets them in trouble, in Europe

Valve Software recently changed Steam’s EULA (End User License Agreement). The Federation of German Consumer Organization (Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband e.V. in German, or VZBV) gave Valve time until October 10th, to respond to a claim that the new EULA is treating consumers unfairly, and unequally. If Valve fails to meet the deadline, the matter will be resolved in the court.

The VZBV believes Valve’s new EULA coerces users into agreeing to new terms, as if they hit “cancel”, they won’t be able to login to their accounts. This, obviously, puts people at a disadvantage, because they bought licenses under different EULA, and they can’t access them if they don’t agree with the new EULA.

    one thing i HATE about society these days.
    valve is getting sued for this, but there are hundreds of companies out there who are doing the exact same things and their getting the free wave.
    why?
    valve are the only ones who have to abide by laws are they?
    if its illegal for one company to do this, than it should be illegal for all companys to do so!
    not saying what valve is doing is fair, quite the opposite, they sell you a game, than say agree to this otherwise we take all your games off you.
    they should get their pants sued off!
    but every company who does this should, not just valve.

    Well, who’s stopping anyone from filing a lawsuit against X, Y company? Valve is dominating the digital scene, and I see more reason in suing Valve first – they boast about having tens of millions of people using their service. So, tens of millions of people are being cheated just ’cause.

    $ony has gotten out of allot of law suits over their recent TCs.
