PSN Day 1 Digital goes big, and it kicks off amazingly

PSN Day 1 Digital goes big, and it kicks off amazingly

Brand new games usually cost 60$, but Sony is here to change that. You can buy Dishonored, NBA 2k13, Need for Speed: Most Wanted and more for 54$. And not just that; for example, Doom 3 BFG Edition will cost 40$, but Sony can give it to you for 36$. But what’s the catch?

  • It’s only available for digital downloads
  • Pre-orders only
  • Playstation Plus members only

That’s Sony’s “PSN Day 1 Digital” program, available to all, but giving discounts to PS Plus subscribers. Currently, not all games on offer have discounts – 007 Legends, Resident Evil 6, Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Assassin’s Creed III will be at 60$, but there from day one.

Sony has done this before, but with some games; Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, Warhawk and more. But this looks like it will have the majority of the new titles, available at launch – but we can hope for more intriguing offers. The developers will also love this move, since many of them have expressed their love for digital recently, and there’s no way to sell your copy back.

Is this a good move by Sony? Regardless, Playstation Plus shapes up to be an even better service, with more and more content and services being available over time.

WOW, Sony is really pushing the Digital Distribution, much more than it’s rivals Microsoft or Nintendo.

I would completely buy these off PSN, if only i had a good enough Internet Connection, i can barely play Multiplayer with this crappy connection.

Indeed, mine is decent, but I don’t really dig digital downloads. On the other hand, I won’t say no to a pretty good deal, and buy the game at retail some time later – its price will also be down, and it will be added to the collection.

Sony has reached the point where PS is the best subscription service I can think of right now, regarding consoles. Buying just what I listed (4 games), you will save 22$. It’s amazing!

This is encouraging me to get PS . Since it will be on the Vita, and who doesn’t like Vita game?

The thing i’m worried about is will we have to be signed in to play Instant Game Collections on the Vita? Like they will force us to be online to track our progress of PS . Another sad thing is that I can’t keep the free games. And If I forget to renew my PS I lose everything. I don’t have money growing on me and that worries me.

    @Grim
when you say “lose everything”, are you talking about just free games or the games and things you get at a discount? With ps you get to keep the things you bought at discount even if you do not have ps , but you can’t play the games you get for free. Now you do not lose, lose them. They still sit in your games list, but you can’t play them until you renew your ps .

  • TheGrimOfDeath

@Joshua: That’s great then mate, I shall get PS when I have the money then. FREE VITA GAME FTW!

Everything bought with PS Plus, that is exclusive to that (like free games) is “lost”; it will be there but you can’t play/use unless you renew your PS subscription.

I’m actually looking forward to November, for PS on Vita. I predict: Escape Plan and ModNation Racers Roadtrip will be the first games to go free.

  • TheGrimOfDeath

I was thinking that Super Star Dust Delta, Star Drone Extreme and the two AR games will become free. I don’t think Sony will start with big games first.

    not really worth it.
save 15 bucks now but you loose, what, 30 bucks down the track?
if $ony ends up putting these games on the AU store for 50 bucks than id be worth it, because new releases normally trade for that.
so your not really loosing anything.
but if its only going to be 20 or so cheaper, than whats the point?
ok if your going to keep the game, but if you just want to finish it once than sell it?

  • http://www.starblindgames.com Christos Chatzisavvas

Obviously, if you want to finish and sell it, this is not for you. Still, it is yet another way to justify the 50$ price tag of PS , which is more tempting than ever, and with the Vita update in November, it will only get more tempting.
